The Gasp : Part 3 : Murdering Situation  by zoralielda
“What?” Hina couldn’t believe her ears.2

“We are going to be murdered” replied her father quietly.3

“Why?”4

“You remember that your mom was poisoned. It’s those men again. They killed your mom and now they’ll kill us. They have escaped from prison. Now that they are here, we’ll not live for long.”5

“But…But, what do they want from us?”6

“Revenge. It’s a long history. I haven’t got the time to tell you.”7

Hina Malik was scared to wits at these words. She didn’t know what to do. She had never imagined this would happen when she saw her father so worried. Her father locked his soft and worried brown eyes upon hers.8

“Hina, maybe if you hide, they won’t know you’re here. They’ll come for me. Just like I went for them.” Hina didn’t know what to make out of this but she listened “Whatever happens, get the police. Get the police, okay? You are my last hope. I am counting on you, my child.”9

“But…Why don’t I get the police now?”10

“No, not now, for two reason. They have cut the telephone wire and they must be waiting in the night, waiting for us to get the police. I think that they’ll visit us here. If anything happens, anything, don’t move. If they kill me, don’t rush over to me. Wait for some time, and then get the police. The rest is up to them.”11

Hina was silent while she digested the horrible situation. She couldn’t believe that her father was taking death so casually. As though he had waited for this. After a while, she spoke.12

“But, dad, I don’t understand why…I mean…do you have to…umm…do you have to die?”13

“Desperate times call for desperate measures. I must do what I can to ensure you and others safety. These men are dangerous, extreme men. You don’t know what they can do. Now promise me that you’ll do as I said.”14

“I…I…I don’t think…”15

“Promise me.”16

“I don’t know if…”17

“Promise me!”18

“I…I promise.”19

She hated herself for promising to let her father die and not help him survive. She hated those ‘dangerous, extreme men.’ She wanted a life of a normal teenager. A life unfilled with parents having to die, loved ones having to go. It was at these times when she realized how strong love is, how it can make you cry, to communicate without speaking. She remembered her mother, who would know what had happened by looking at her face. And her father would communicate with her through eyes when they had a big surprise coming up. Now, this would be lost. Some was already lost and now the rest will be too…20

A tear trickled down her cheek and she put her arms around her father and began to sob on his shoulder. He pulled her into a hug, into his warm arms. She wanted to be with him until…21

She didn’t know how long they were like this. But soon they pulled apart, and gazed into each other eyes, searching for something.22

Mr. Malik, Hina’s father, hugged her and kissed her for the last time, before telling her to go upstairs to her room and reminding her to remember her promise.23

Hina sat on her bed, a picture of misery. Her father was going to die and she would be doing nothing. She would be an orphan…without parents. She would be living in an orphanage, with thousands like herself…in a few moments…24

After a while, somebody came bursting through the door. A chill ran through Hina’s spines. Who could it be? Friend or foe?
