The Heart is Always Searching (7)  by xoxundefined

Felicia's POV

As we waited for some feedback on Joe my phone rang. It was Chrysta. I had totally forgotten about our "plans" that I didn't know about.

"Hello?" I spoke into the phone.

"Hey Licia. Are you going to be ready, I am coming in an hour." Chrysta replied.

"Uh. Well, I don't think I can make it cause-uh...JoeandIbrokeupandthenhegothitbyacarsoweareatthehospital!" I said so fast my words slurred.

"Oh, honey. Is he okay? Are you okay? Is anyone with you at BRH?" Chrysta replied, making me feel worse by the second.

"I don't know. Kevin and Nick just got here. Hold on." I said, handing the phone to Kevin, because I really didn't want to talk.

"Hey, Chrys. It's Kevin. Do you think you can come up here? I don't think Felicia should-…" I heard Kevin say as he drifted away and on to the elevator.

Just after Kevin walked off, I saw a doctor approaching me and Nick. My heart flopped around in my chest and I had a stomach full of fluttering butterflies. This was the moment I was dreading since I got to the hospital, but yet I waited anxiously for him to speak. I gave Nick a nervous glare and stood up to face the facts, and the doctor.

"Hi. I am Dr. Cleetworth. Are you here with Joseph Jonas?" the doctor said, looking down at his clipboard.

"Y-y-yes. S-sir." I stammered out.

"Okay. Joseph has some minor bruises and scrapes and a fractured rib. He should fully recover from that in no time. He does have a small case of amnesia that should wear off in about 2 weeks. So, I am pretty sure he'll remember his birthday, his family, some people he knows, ect, but maybe not certain events...so take it easy with him." Dr. Cleetworth said in a flat tone.

"Thank you. When can we see him?" Nick said.

"Well, visiting hours are from 5-8. So, you may visit him now if you would like." Dr. Cleetworth said.

"Alright. Thank you so much." I said, wanting to get to Joe.

"He is room 313!" Dr. Cleetworth added.

I ran to the elevators and Nick followed. I pressed the button with the number 3 on it and we headed UP! Finally, I heard the ting and saw a red 3 on the small gray pixilated screen. Nick and I got off the elevators and started heading toward the rooms.

It seemed like a never ending chain of pointless numbers.

299, 300, 301, 302, 303, 304, 305, 306, 307, 308, 309, 310, 311, 312…313!

I stopped dead in my tracks, and froze. My face went white and I got nervous. I felt Nick hand gently brush mine and then interlaced. With his other hand his gently knocked on the door, then pushed it open. I saw Joe laying there still as a statue with a ton of needles and machinery hooked up to him. There was a nurse sitting next to him with a clipboard asking him questions like, "What is your full name?" and "What is today's date?" and "How old are you?" then she would check the box next to that question, as either Right or Wrong.

I couldn't believe my eyes.
