Red Dawn--Preface
by writteralice
"Watch and wait as the big man comes. You cant move and you cant run. They know your there, no place to run. So just watch and wait as the big man comes." - S. C. Chris.
If fate means dying for something you believe in, even if the ones you are fighting for dont believe it, then fate is something that takes faith and corage. No wonder most people dont believe in it.
The lights fade in and out as me and my friend huddle in the corner of the room. Carful to stay away from the windows as if moving in their view meant a sure and sudden death. And as a matter of fact, it did.
"Ten minutes till pick up", Smith wispers to us from behind his desk. He was our inside man in this resistnace. "Do you think we will make it", my friend Chris wispers urgently to me. I dont know I tell him, not willing to say what I really thought. "Its ok kids" Smith tells us, "no worry unless.." He stops, whatever he was going to say was lost now. Chris and me sit and wait, unsure of what was worse: his silience, or his next response. "TheSearch lights, they have stopped on us". He wispers, suddenly afriad. I was afriad too, because I had thought Smith was one of those middle age men who could never be afraid. This was the only time that had ever proved that theory wrong.
Suddenly it gets quiet. More quiet than it already was. The electronic tiker on the wall which was counting the seconds had just went quite. The room felt twenty degrees cooler. The heater must have stopped working too. "Whats happening? Why did the powere go out?!" Chris shrieks from behind me. I can feel his panic, mine was just about to go out of control. "There coming" Smith says, as the sirens begin.
