Unanswered questions of the selfish and greedy  by writinghobo

There once was a humble man, a leader, who believed that if you knew the right time to begin any task, the right time to love and the right time to hate, there would be no discretions and imminent barriers to any action that he chose to undertake. He was a leader of a great land more powerful than all the others bordering its barriers; it was so powerful because of the inspired and superior thinkers that reigned in his capital city. They were the fabric of his lands’ success.

Knowing that it was essential to know the right time for all of the things above would make him more superior than ever before he called all of the greatest thinkers from his land and from bordering lands to council him in these affairs. All men knew of his powers and what changes he could undergo to improve any man’s way of life and status in the high society of the lands capital city, therefore some men trudged from very far to aide the great leader in his dilemma.

There were too many thinkers and magicians present for the leader and it would take years for him to speak to each one, hoping to find a resolve to his questions. Against the wishes of his cabinet and most importantly those of his father he never quit trying to find the answers, that he believed would unlock the doors to his superior greatness and immortality, by being etched into the history books.

He was a greedy and selfish man; he no longer cared about the well-being of his land and of his people. The only worry he currently possessed was finding the answer to his questions: When do I know the right time to begin any task? When do I know the right time to love? When do I know the right time to hate? These were the answers he required and would stop at nothing to find.

Years passed and he was never happy with the results the thinkers of the day would give him. He began to be known as the leader who could not be pleased. The answers weren’t coming, even though now thinkers and magicians were coming from all over the world to solve this problem. War was raging in several lands, revolutions were in the making, the poor were starving and the rich were laughing, because they could get away with any capitalist crime in the laws, since no one was paying attention to what was going on anymore. All that mattered was the well being of the leader, of the man who desperately searched for the answer to these questions.

He started to get ill. He was getting old, it has been ten years since he first started looking for the answers and his age was beginning to overtake him and death was breathing its cold breath unto his shoulders. It did not hinder his resolve though, and he kept sending in more and more thinkers to solve the answers. He was not pleased with any of the answers, and the thinkers were starting to not be thinkers anymore, it seemed that they were all just fraudulent men who wanted the blessings from the king. They came in and just guessed and hoped that the king would accept their answer and choose to take their recommended paths.

Many more years passed and the king was slowly coming to his end. He was already in his deathbed, the only words he could mutter were in a whisper and the only breaths he drew forced him to cough irrefutably. His peers were so worried about him that they advised him to rest and forget finding these answers. To name an heir and die away slowly, because death is the only happiness he could possibly achieve now. He will not gain his happiness or his resolve, but he did not want to give up. He was greedy, he was selfish. His land was in turmoil and no one had the power to do anything about it except for him, who only wanted the answer to his questions.

On the night before the day that he died, a beautiful little child came to see him. It is unknown how the child managed to enter the palace and get into the leaders chambers. That will always remain a legend.

This child went up the leader’s deathbed and firmly grasped his hands and looked him into the eyes very deeply. It was a magnificent sight because the leader has never been seen with a child and now he was in such amazement about the current moment.

“Do you know the answers to my tribulations?” It was a desperate last attempt but he felt that this child knew the answer, because of a child’s innocence is a powerful object.

“Yes I do, my lord.”

“Then will you tell me, please? I am breathing my last breaths it would be the ultimate joy to know the answers that I have searched for for such a long time.”

“Yes, my lord. What you must understand is that you are a greedy and selfish man. You have only cared about your interests and not of the people of your land and its bordering neighbors. When you began searching for your answers the only people you questioned had also become selfish. A selfish and greedy man doesn’t deserve the answers that will fulfill his life. You will never know when you have found love or when the right time to love is. Hatred will never begin for you; it is in you already and will never leave your selfish soul. I am an innocent child, I have not learned to be selfish and greedy, and therefore I know the answers to your questions.”

“You have answered two, what about the third? When do I know the right time to start something?”

“That is something that the gods themselves may only know.”

And after this answer he drew his last breath and died away.
