Eyes of Texas  by writerwannabe

When I was a teenage boy, my Daddy said to me,

“It’s time we took a little trip, there’s something you must see”

So, we said farewell to Momma and headed out of sight

And he showed me all of Texas in forty days and nights

As we travelled ‘cross that Lone Star state, he’d stop for me to see

A landmark or a place restored and tell its history

He knew everything and everyone who helped make Texas great

And I won’t forget a thing I saw or what he said to me

Eyes of Texas are always watching you

It don’t matter where you go, son, it don’t matter what you do

The bloodline that your heart beats is Texas tried and true

And the Eyes of Texas will always be with you

Now, my life has come full circle, I’m married with two sons

And though we live in a foreign land the time for them will come

When I take them back to Texas, just so they can see

What it means to be a Texan, throughout our history

Eyes of Texas are always watching you

It don’t matter where you go, son, it don’t matter what you do

The bloodline that your heart beats is Texas tried and true

And the Eyes of Texas will always be with you
