Dark Secret 2
by writerwannabe
After her successful experiment with the parking lot, Jessica spent the next two weeks refining her skill. There's nothing like success to breed success and as her experiments grew in complexity, so, too, did her confidence.
Jessica read her book, "The Secret", everyday, reinforcing her belief in this ages old philosophy. It mattered not what she wanted, only that she wanted it. The universe knows nothing from good or bad. It only knows what the human mind desires and, once this mind based energy is released into the universe; the universe begins working to fulfill the wish.
In the past two weeks, she'd discovered that she could easily control every facet of her everyday life. She literally wrote the screenplay for her own life. Obtaining parking spaces became old hat. She also lost twelve pounds, won a raffle at the local grocery store for a new Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 (what she was going to do with that, she hadn't a clue - though selling it seemed the most obvious course of action), quit smoking from one day to the next without any nicotine gum, patches or lozenges - all through the use of her mind as catalyst for the universe to make it happen. Whatever she wanted, she got.
Her thoughts, her ideas were coming so fast now that she had taken to talking to herself out loud as a method of categorizing and prioritizing her desires. She wanted more. She pushed and stretched her mind to do more and the first thing she tried was telekinesis.
She looked at a vase in her kitchen and said, "I want you in the living room, on the floor, next to the right hand corner of the sofa." She closed her eyes and pictured what she'd said, in her mind. "I see you in the living room, on the floor, next to the right hand corner of the sofa," she repeated. "It makes me happy to see you there. I am forever grateful for receiving this gift. I am going to love it when you are in the living room, on the floor, next to the right hand corner of the sofa."
Jessica erased all other thoughts from her mind, she knew that the universe was working to make her wishes come true, to make her happy. She was thankful, she was certain that it would happen. She opened her eyes and looked at the vase. It wasn't there. Smiling she walked into the living room and there sat the vase - on the floor, next to the right hand corner of the sofa.
"Wow, that was really neat, Aunt Jessie!"
Startled, Jessica jumped and whirled around to see William pointing at the vase. She quickly composed herself and smiled at her best friends youngest son. "William! I didn't hear you come in. What a surprise!" She followed his pointing finger with her eyes and continued, "Oh, you mean the vase? Did you see it happen?"
The boy was excited, jumping around and talking a million miles an hour, "I saw it all, Aunt Jessie. You were talking to it and then it disappeared...that was sooo cool! You told it to go to the living and it went...it went to the living room!"
Jessica laughed, knelt down and hugged William. "I've been practicing magic!"
"Do another one," the boy exclaimed. His eyes wide with wonder and pleasure, he pulled on Jessica's sleeve. "Please, do another magic trick!"
Jessica smiled and thought for a second. At first she was caught up in William's excitement but she quickly realized that his knowing...anyone's knowing, could prove problematic. Still, she loved "her" boys and it made her happy to see them excited about something.
"OK, Will...but, first you have to promise me something..."
Will was nodding his head before she finished speaking, "Anything, Aunt Jessie...do another trick, willya...please!"
Jessica laughed and said, "You must promise to keep this a secret. Only for a little while. I'm still practicing and when I get really, really good, we'll surprise everyone with a magic show. OK?"
