The gunfire stopped for a moment, and I heard a crackling sound.  It was coming from the vicinity of the shooter, and it was followed by a crackly voice.

"All units, respond to a shooting in progress, on the corner of 42nd and Prospecter, over."

The shooter, responded.

"Officer Harris responding to shooting in progress. I am in the vicinity and will call for backup if necessary. Over."

Oh, ****. I peeked over the table and saw a flash of blue sleeve and gold emblem. A cop.  Oh, ****.

Another crackle.  "That is fine. Dispatch out."

The shooter/cop addressed me now.  "Nice try Jimmy.  Okay, we'll do this the hard way."

I heard the unmistakable cocking of a double-barreled shotgun.  Oh, ****.
