Chapter 6
The smell of blood was strong mixed in with the dust and stale air.
She tried to make out the figures on the other crosses. She didn't know the woman that hung besided Father Preston. In the dim light all she could tell was that she wore a nurse's uniform.
There was a lanky man on the other cross his face cast in shadows, beside him hung a slight figure that she first thought was a woman.
Moving closer, shaking she peered through the darkness, noted the flat chest. It was a young boy, the longish hair had threw her off.
Penned to the boy was a note that read;'Though Shall Not Steal'.
She moved around the large room, thankful to be away from the blood and gore.
The room was large stacked to the top with crates and cardboard boxes.
She struggled to get one of the boxes open. The box was full of ipods.
There was a window near the top of the building. She looked around thinking if she could stack boxes high enoug, she might be able to look out and figure out where she was.
Suddenly she heard a loud banging. She felt hereself being pulled out of her dream state. She tried to resist, but the banging was bringing her out.
"Adara, are you all right." It was Franco's worried voice that brought her fully awake.
"I'm okay." She snapped, and was immedially sorry.
As she fallowed Franco down stairs he said, "I just wanted to tell you the police were leaving."
Office Bohac stood at the door his hat in his hand. "Ms. Davis, I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything."
She wanted to tell him about the warehouse but she didn't know how to do it, so he wouldn't think she was crazy or had something to do with the murders.
Franco was already looking at her like he was afraid she'd crack up any minute.
"Do you thing Paige, might of took off on her own, somewhere?"
Dara walked to the kitchen and poured herself a cup of coffee. "She wasn't at any of her friends houses. I don't have a clue where else she could be."
Just then the phone rang. They looked at one another, both afraid to pick it up.
Finally Adara grabbed the phone off the hook. A sultry voice said, "Your daughters safe, Dara, but the sins of the mother shall be visited on the daughter." The phone went dead.
She frowned, "Somethings changed." She grabbed the phone and dial the police.
"I'd like to speak to Officer Bohac, this is Ms Davis."
While she waited she explained things to Franco.
When Bohac answered, she said. "Someone else may have my daughter. A female called and told me Paige was okay, but the sins of the mother would be visited on the daughter."
She listened for a few moments. "I'm aware that it's not one of the ten commandments." She listen again. "Fine I will be here."
Franco ask what was said. She said, "He's coming over in a couple of hours to bug the phone. They were going to do it any how."
Franco looked a little unhappy. Puzzled Adara ask him what was bothering him. "Nothing," he said. "I just don't like the ideal of the police being able to hear all our phone calls and being be under foot all the time."
She shrugged, "I don't care Franco." Tears ran down her face. "I just want to find Paige." He took her in his arms. "Of course you do, honey." She could see the uneasy look in his eyes as he hugged her.
