I pressed my cheek against the chilled, frost –covered window and sighed. My breath warmed the glass, melting the thin sheet of ice and left a small clear circle ,so perfect it was like a compass had drawn it. I looked out at the fallen snow, glistening majestically in the moonlight that fought to pierce the the night’s purple and black clouds. Pulling my knees to my chin,I cradled them in my arms as I stared at the crimson red of my windowseat cushions, memorizing every thread . Resting my head on my knees ,I switched my gaze from the crimson windowseats to the untainted snow ,admiring the contrast and beauty of the two colors. I glanced out at the pine trees clumped together, their branches drooping from the weight of the snow burdened upon them.Icicles hung from the rooftop like silver daggers, the frozen ice glinting as the moon’s rays bounced from one to the other . A swift movement suddenly caught my attention. My eyes searched the shadows ,trying to find what had been the cause of it and I paused as my stare fell upon an outline leaning against a tree. An urge wove itself into my mind and I unconsciously fought to ignore it; my head began to throb before I rose from the windowseat. I lightly swung my legs over the side and pressed my toes into the warm carpet ,before standing and pulling a jacket from the bedpost. Slipping my arms into the warm sleeves ,I looked around, grabbed a fleece blanket from the bed and wrapped it around my shoulders before gliding over to the massive oak bedroom door.My silk night gown trailed behind me as I quietly turned the brass knob and watched the door open with a light creak. Peering out through the slight crack I examined the hallway,my ears alert for sounds. Sensing that no one was awake i tiptoed to the staircase and gently rested my hand upon the banister. As I began my descent I heard the wind whistled throughout the crevices of the old victorian house and glancing down from the stairs I had a perfect view of the living room window, where soft, vivid swirls of snow danced across the landscape, briefly grazing the surface of the glass. I strode down the last couple of stairs and shoved my feet into my shoes that waited by the door.I unlocked the door etched with beautiful intertwining vines and twisted the handle, the hinges heaving as the door slide open and welcomed a shock of cold air into the opening. I stepped out onto the porch and closed the door, the wind whipping at my face and breezing through my blanket causing it to flap around on my shoulders. Straining my eyes through flurries of snowflakes I looked over at the spot where I had seen the strange figure. I hesitated a bit before scurrying down the porch steps and past the two stone lions that guarded them. Feet sinking into the snow with a low crunch I manuevered my way through the ankle deep snow to the edge of the pine forest. The branches arched above me as if welcoming me into the dark depths. I tilted my head back and gazed at the upper branches as the wind breezed through it ,causing some snowflakes to lightly float down and land in my hair.
“Hmm..what’s a pretty girl like you doing outside?”My eyes widened in shock and I wheeled around to the direction of the voice. A handsome young man clad in black stepped out from under the blanket of white on the branches. He gazed at me with ash gray eyes and strode towards me ,his black leather trenchcoat waving behind him with each step he took. As he approached, I clearly saw that smirk that played on his lips before he reached out with a gloved hand and gently cupped my chin. I stared defiantly at him as I examined his facial features. He had a prominent jawline and rosy cheeks, giving him a boyish look to him, though the air around him pulsed with superiority. “I wonder why they choose you..”I glanced at him questioningly and he returned my gaze with a smile.“Who is they? And..who are you?”
