Myth meets Science
Back in the eighteen-hundreds I ran into some rotten people and, without meaning to, I started talking like a smart mouth to them when they would not let me continue on my way. Of course, I made them fairly angry. Because of that, I found myself dead and buried six feet under in a graveyard... well... I did not find myself. A man did. A grave robber and a mad scientist. This madman came to my grave the night after I was buried and brought me to his laboratory, hidden under his mansion. Once he had me there he began his reworked experiments on me. His goal was to create vampires. He loved mythical creatures and enough to try and make them a reality at anyones expense. Even his butlers were made into werewolves.
So far he has gone through two-hundred and fifty bodies trying to make himself a set of vampires to work as his night time security team. His last run almost worked except the newly made vampires quickly went insane and destroyed themselves. This time, he succeeded.
I woke up, heavily chained down to a steel table. I coughed and groaned as my body kicked back into life. Looking around a realized I was in a room made of mirrors with four other people who were just starting to look around as well.
I thought I died... what am I doing here? Why am I chained down? What is this place? I thought to myself.
“Hello!” suddenly came a loud and exited voice from seemingly nowhere. “My name is Alexander Saxon and I have just brought you back from the dead! However I did not bring you back as humans. I have turned you all... into vampires!
“We are going to test your abilities to make sure you are all in proper working order. If everything is working fine then you will be given a new life here with me!”
“Why can we not go back to our old lives?!” the man beside me with short, light-brown hair coughed.
“As I said, everyone thinks you are dead! Even if you went to your homes you would most likely end up killing off your families and friends. You are killers now! You drink blood to stay healthy and they would only appeal to your undying hunger. No, instead you will stay here with me as my personal security. You will be well looked after and fed daily. I even made sure your coffins were undamaged when I brought them here and made sure they will be as comfortable as possible for you all.
“Now! On to the tests! The first thing I want you to do is listen for my heartbeat. Subject two-hundred and fifty-five will start... the man with shaggy red hair on the end there.”
“Alright...” I said in an unsure tone.
Closing my eyes and concentrating, I could hear the slow heartbeats of the other four in the room, my own, and two on the other side of the mirror on my left. One of the two heartbeats sounded like a regular humans, -unlike my own- well the other sounded a little more wild and animal like.
Looking to the correct mirror I said “You are over there, to the right well someone a little less human stands on your left... by the way... you have quite a lot of rats here for being so wealthy.”
“Excellent! Very impressive subject two-hundred and fifty-five! Very good! You will have to excuse the rats, you are not my first batch of subjects and I can not really just take them back to the graveyard. Now, I want you to get up.”
“How? I am chained down!”
“Exactly! You have to break your bonds to get up!”
Sighing I said “Fine.”
preparing for a work out from this, I tightened my muscles, and used all my strength to push my arms up. With little resistance, I broke the chains and almost pulled a muscle from my arms flying over and passed my head.
Wide-eyed, I stared at my arms and hands for a moment, then I put my hands down beside me, tossed my legs up to break a few more chains, then flipped myself upright and off the cold table.
“Wow...” was all I could think of to say.
A doorway in the mirror room opened up revealing Mr. Saxon, a short man with grey hair and almost black eyes. He was definitely up in his years but still looked rather energetic. Mr. Saxon said “Please come with me for the rest of your tests well the others will be handled by my butler, Peter.”
I did what he asked and stepped out. Following him until we stopped before another door. “Now, you have three new types of teeth. The first type is located in the top of your jaw, one tooth back from the front. These two teeth should turn another human into a vampire if you bite them. The next type will change a dead body into a blood servant. The servant will be only yours to command but it can not go on too long with out a regular injection from you. I do not know how long yet but it will not take long to find out. This set also comes with two teeth just back one from the first set. Finally you have four teeth, two on the bottom and two on the top, that are only meant to bite into flesh to drink the blood. These eight teeth will retract from your gums and slide into place in front of your original teeth. When you finish using the teeth they will sink back under your gums and hide away. To do this all you have to do is concentrate on the right set.
“First, I want you to make a blood servant. So if you please, pick one of the bodies behind this door. The blood servant should come back to life after a second. When they do, they will be like a regular human mentally and physically only a little stronger and have a psychic link to you so they can find you, receive orders, or quickly come to your aid. They will understand without being told, that they are alive to serve you and will die again if they leave, and they will understand you as if they have been with you all along, so you do not need to explain anything to them. Now, go ahead and give it a go.” Mr. Saxon said, as he opened the door to the room.
Stepping inside, I felt a little bothered by the amount of body lay inside the room but not as much as I felt I should be... I decided this had something to do with coming back from the grave myself. Looking over the bodies one by one, I found a man around the age of twenty, like myself. He appeared to have been quite healthy and strong before he died. He had a big build, short black hair, and a moustache. I decided to go try him. Picking up his arm, I concentrated on my revival teeth and felt them gently slide out from under my gums. Once in place, I leaned over a little then bit into the arm. As I did I felt a liquid come out of the points of the teeth and be injected into the mans body. Letting go, I watched the body for a moment. Slowly colour returned to his face and he started to twitch, then finally his eyelids burst open revealing dark brown eyes, and he sat bolt up right. he gasped for air then started to cough as his body restarted itself.
Breathing heavily, he looked around until he saw me, then said “Master Tale!” and bowed his head. Raising his head again he said “What are you doing in a place filled with nothing but the dead? This is not some place you would normally go...”
“Yes, well... I did not plan on it... and I do not plan to make it a regular thing either. By the way, please just call me by my first name. I do not see myself as anyones master.”
“Anthony, then... I am glad to be raised to serve such a good man.”
“Thank you, though I am only very average.... What is your name?”
“It is a pleasure to meet you Harry. Listen, we do not actually know how long you can last without being bitten again so if you start to feel something wrong then let me know, alright?”
“Understood.” the man smiled.
We both stood up and went back over to the door where Mr. Saxon complemented me.
Next Mr. Saxon lead the two of us up stairs and into a room with five men waiting patiently. He called to one of them, who quickly came over and followed us well eyeing Harry and I. The man was a tall and slender, with a stern face. He also had short black hair, only with some grey streaks in it well his eyes were a dark green.
The four of us entered another room down the hall aways. The first thing Mr. Saxon did was lock the door of the room then he asked Harry to stand in front of it. Harry looked to me instead of moving. Slightly uneasy I told him to do as instructed. After that Mr. Saxon turned to the man who came with us and said “Mr. Fredrick Barst. I would like to hire you as a chef like you applied for, but there is a few things first.”
“Like what, may I ask sir?”
“This may be a strange question but considering I like people who are... out of the ordinary to work for me, I have to ask. Are you a human?”
“What? Of course I am...”
“If that is the case then I would be more likely to turn you down normally,” Mr. Barst was looking extremely confused now. “but considering that my latest experiment went well you have a chance.” Mr. Saxon said as he put a hand on my shoulder. “If you are willing to become a vampire and get bitten by young Mr. Tale here, I will hire you to be his and the other vampires, chef since I'm sure they would like a little more variety in there diet.”
“I thought vampires could only drink blood...” I asked.
“I made you so that your body can handle regular foods as well but you still need regular amounts of blood to keep you in top shape.”
“What madness are you two talking about!” Mr. Barst shouted in fear. I could hear is heart pounding faster and harder by the minute. It was so loud. I felt as though I was going to start too drool because of it. I soon realized that I had started to move toward Mr. Barst with my feeding fangs bared at him. Which caused him to shout in fear.
“Keep still or you'll really get him going!” Mr. Saxon said in a slightly nervous tone. Your racing heart is probably what is making him lose control. He can not control himself very well just yet as he is still newly born.”
Mr. Saxon, then quickly turned to me and said “Anthony! Calm down, control yourself!”
I looked to Mr. Saxon as he tried to snap me back to my senses but soon his heartbeat was picking up as well, making my predator instincts go even more wild. Soon though I noticed a voice that wasn't mine sounding within my head. Turning around to Harry, I glared at him as he tried his best to settle me with his own mind as he knew that I would hate myself afterwords if I killed the two men behind me.
Thankfully the newly formed bond did in fact save me from regret. I stumbled then slumped to the floor feeling horrified with myself. Looks like a blood servant was for more then only doing my bidding, but could help me regain control of myself if I ever lose it.
Harry knelt down beside me and put a hand on my shoulder.
“You are suggesting I become like that thing?!” Mr. Barst yelled.
“He will quickly learn to control himself. He was only just finished today. I am testing him right now to see if he functions alright. So far I think he is doing very well for himself. Even well out of control he still had the restraint to keep himself from just jumping on you and drinking your blood for every drop you are worth. Once he matures some, I think he would make a fine man... he could even be the king of his species with how good he is.
“You could be just as good as well if you turn. Think about it! You could have so much more power then you do now and all you have to do is work for me and get bitten once.” Mr. Barst seemed to fall speechless and only looked from Mr. Saxon, then to me, and back. “I can not stand here waiting all day you know? I need an answer.... If you need some incentive, You will become immortal as well.
Mr. Barst continued to watch us for a minute more, then he slowly rolled up his right sleeve and nervously presented his arm. This made Mr. Saxon grin wide in an evil sort of way that made me uncomfortable.
“That is your cue to make your first child, young Mr. Tale!” Mr. Saxon said with glee.
Nervously, I moved over to Mr. Barst. Once I was close enough I said “You are sure of this?” he nodded. “Alright.... I have a feeling this may pinch a little so try to bear with it... and try to stay as calm as possible.” Mr. Barst nodded again.
I let my turning fangs out from under my gums, took hold of Mr. Barsts arm, and then gently bit down into his wrist. Another liquid came forth from the two teeth and entered the mans body. Once the injection was done, I let go and took a step back. It did not take long for Mr. Barst to start changing.
The first thing to happen was his eyes went wide with shock then he collapsed, dead,on the floor. A second later, he began to twitch which quickly turned into convulsions through out the body until finally, a loud gasp of air came from him. Now his heartbeat was slower and his skin, pale.
Mr. Barst got up off the floor slowly, stood up straight, and smoothed out his clothes. Mr. Saxon checked him over and decided the change was a success. Of course he also had him tested as well before being totally sure.
After this I was tested on a few other things such as how fast I could move, how good my sight was, how good my hearing was, and how long I could last under the sun before I started to burn. Everything could be considered superhuman except against the sun in which I begin to burn in twenty minutes without protection. If I wanted to stay out longer I at the very least needed an umbrella to keep the sun off me.
Instead though, Mr. Saxon had a suit tailored for me as well as my sibling vampires to cover every inch of our bodies, and when I say a suit, I do not mean the kind with a necktie and a top hat. This suit, for starters, was made from a special material that was impossible to rip, tare, or cut through without specialized tools. Nothing could damage it. The suit was also form fitting and uncomfortable. It was also completely black except for a pair of red fangs with a single drop of blood dripping of the right fang. The suit was made up of durable but light boots, black socks, black tights with light padding, a black long-sleeve shirt, also with light padding, a black jacket with the fang symbol on the back, black leather gloves, and a black mask that covered my whole face with black mesh over the eyes to see through.
Well the suits were being made, Mr. Saxon had some of his human employees and us vampires -minus my new son, who was checking out the kitchens- meet in the dinning room and then had us feed, for the first time, on them. We were all very reluctant at first until instinct kicked in for the others. I on the other hand had already learned self control. When I did finally work up the nerve to eat, I did my best to not hurt the person. Something I was thankful for was that when I bit in to feed, a liquid quickly shot into the veins first and knocked the person out. I drank just enough blood to make sure that the person would be fine after some rest and to subdue my hunger.
The other first generation vampires were not so kind with their senses lost. A lot of blood was spilt and the people they fed on all died. When they realized my human was still alive they started trying to get him. Without thinking I quickly fought them off to protect the man and make sure he did not get hurt.
In the quarrel I was quick to punch the first one in the temple as hard as I could, sending flying off to the side. The next, I punched hard in the face, breaking their nose and making him stumble back, then kicked the one female of the group in the chest, sending her flying back.
The finally guy managed to land a clean hit on my jaw making me stumble back and giving him the chance to punch me in the gut which lifted me off my feet and into the nearby wall, causing me to smash halfway into the wall.
Just before my brother could bite down on the man I snapped back into it and jumped at him, knocking him to the floor and splintering the wood beneath us.
Looking around I noticed the others were getting up again already. I groaned to myself for a moment, then picked up the one I just knocked down and smashed him into the table in an attempt to knock him unconscious and breaking the table in two in the process. The next two that came after me distracted me well another came from behind and bashed me in the head with the broken leg of a chair... which was now broken further into splinters. The three of them managed to get me on my knees and beat me good until finally I saw and opportunity to break out.
Grabbing one of them by the legs I threw them up into the air and across the room. He smashed into the far wall then the floor and fell limp. I could still hear him breathing and his heart beating though.
After that I punched my sister in the stomach and pushed her back aways, giving me the chance to grab the last of the three and run him into a wall.
Stepping back I realized I ran him into the wall hard enough to make him part of it. Thankfully he was out for the count as well. Before I could turn my attention back to the girl I felt nails digging into my back and cut through my flesh.
I cried out in pain for a split second then turned to face her. Before she could do something else I gave her a bear hug, cracking a few of her ribs and stopped her from breathing properly. I continued to hold her until she passed out, then I set her down on the floor.
Just as I set her down I felt myself being picked up and thrown. I landed in the centre of the long dinner table and heard it start to splinter under me.
Before I could move, the brother I tried to knock out by smashing him into the table before, jumped onto my chest, causing us to break the rest of the way threw the table. After that he started to stomp on me until I grabbed his foot and tossed him up to give myself a chance to stand.
As he came back down, I jumped up and as we passed each other I kicked him in the gut with both feet and sent him smashing into the one part of the table that had yet been damaged.
Before he could get up again, I pinned him down and held him there until he finally came back to his senses as it did not seem I would be able to knock him out as easily as the others.
When he did come back to himself we got off the floor, and he looked at me and all around the room to really see how much he had done. He was speechless and obviously hating himself as he looked.
I put a hand on his shoulder and said “It is alright, you had no control of yourself... besides, all this damage was hardly all your fault. Now that you have felt yourself go wild though, you can learn from it so next time it will not happen. A side from the person you killed, the room can be cleaned and fixed and we heal rather fast as you can see. Our wounds are already scabbed over.”
He only stared at me with his green eyes for a moment before saying “Thank you brother, for your kind words but I fear you put your faith in a beast...”
“A beast can be soothed. Even if it might take time.”
“Thank you... I have still yet to introduce myself to you properly. My name is Jonathan Jones but people call me... or, did call me Johny. I was born in London.”
“It is a pleasure. My name is Anthony Tale. I believe I was born here in sunset town but I am not sure. I never had a family to speak of and for the longest time I lived on the streets. I don't even know my real last name.”
“Why are you called Tale then?”
“Because I used to be full of nothing but telltales and lies. Nothing I'm proud of but it was the best way to get around the streets... until I started being a smart mouth.”
“How come we have not seen any of that yet?”
“There is no need to lie... not yet anyway. As for the mouth, you can just ask Harry. Thankfully he finds it funny.”
Johny laughed and said “Is that so? Your blood servant seemed like he was a pretty stiff guy to me.”
We looked at each other for a moment as we smiled at the joke but we could not hold back our laughter so we began to laugh out loud.
After talking a little longer Mr. Saxon finally came in to see the mess. Which he did not look to happy about, though he did not look very surprised either.
