Brooke was excited. Her friend Julianne had finally agreed for her to tag along. Julianne was going home for a short visit. Julianne was reluctant at first but, Brooke had pleaded pitifully.
She wanted to see her friend’s home in the country. Brooke was a city girl and for once in her life, she longed to set foot onto new grounds. She wanted to breathe fresh air and more purposely, she was looking forward to meet Julianne’s boyfriend, Adam.
“Here we are.” Julianne’s voice was flat. She was obviously not enthusiastic as her.
Brooke followed Julianne off the bus and whistled.
Julianne’s home town looked peaceful. Green living things were everywhere and from the town’s right; the sight of the sea was marvelous under the clearest skies.
To Brooke’s dismay, Julianne seemed unaware of the place’s beauty. Silently, she followed her friend towards town.
Julianne was Brooke’s friend and roommate. They have only known each other for a year but it had seemed that they have been best friends forever.
Julianne was the nicest and the luckiest person alive. She has the most awesome boyfriend a girl could ever want.
Brooke after three consecutive break ups with males she deeply loved envied Julianne’s love life. How Brooked wished she has someone like Julianne’s boyfriend.
Shortly, they arrived at Julianne’s house. It was a two storey building with a homey terrace at front.
They were greeted by two familiar faces. Brooke recognized them from Julianne’s small photo album back at the dormitory. It was Julianne’s mom and Adam.
Mrs. Smith, Julianne’s mom was an older version of her friend. She was a petite brunette with a lovely olive complexion.
She smiled at them nervously.
Adam was looking at Julianne seriously. He, like Julianne’s mom seemed tense.
For a moment Brooke thought of him as another person. But of course, he’s got to be Adam!
He was the same guy in Julianne’s pictures and he was holding out a bouquet of red roses for Julianne.
Brooke sighed over the flowers. She can only wish that the roses were for her.
Adam was a boy-next-door type. He was looking descent with his denim jeans and grey shirt. He has a nice dark crew-cut hair and the warmest brown eyes.
He was eyeing Julianne intently, ignorant of everything.
Lucky Julianne!
Adam has handed Julianne the flowers. To Brooke’s surprise, Julianne let the roses fell to the ground. She trampled onto them savagely.
“Jules!” Brooke was shocked and confused. Was there a lover’s quarrel?
Julianne didn’t look at her. She didn’t even seem to care about everything at that moment. She seemed really furious at the boy.
Julianne did manage to plant a kiss on Mrs. Smith’s cheek before heading for the house.
Julianne’s mom was worried than ever but didn’t say anything.
Adam’s face was red. He was reaching down to pick up his roses from the ground.
Feeling very sorry for the boy, Brooke considered helping him. As she extended an arm towards a flower, the back of her hand happened to brush against Adam’s palm.
There was a shock! Brooke’s heart skipped a beat to that wonderful feeling!
For the first time, Adam looked at her, seeing her for the first time. Julianne smiled her sweetest smile. She tried to say something but his breathtaking gaze caught her tongue.
Adam only nodded at her politely. He gathered his broken roses in his arms. He then, walked away after saying good bye to Julianne’s mom.
Brooke sighed soulfully. Adam took her heart along with his flowers.
