~The right thing~  by sarahmahina
Scarlet leaned back shakily, catching her breath. She had waited so long for this moment, but this wasn't how it was supposed to be. "Buddy..." She raised her eyes to his as he smiled shakily and took up her hand. "Scarlet, just hear me out. This took me too long to realize. I was listening to what everyone else wanted me to do and not my own heart." She whimpered and he shook his head. He smiled, and his green eyes flashed, making her catch her breath as it had always made her do when he turned his eyes on her. "Scarlet, this is the right thing to do, I finally know what is is." He tilted her chin up with a light touch, making her flinch when she realized that she liked the way this was going. "Scarlet, it's you." He laughed, "the right thing is you. It always has been you, but I didn't open my eyes fast enough to see it." She drew another shaky breath and looked up at him, feeling herself wanted to stare and drown in his eyes forever. She shook her head and blinked hard, what was wrong with her? She was finally at a loss for words in her life. "Buddy, are you sure the right thing to do is me?" She laughed ackwardly. "That came out wrong." He laughed, clasping her hands in his. "I know what you meant. I have thought about this hard, Scarlet, don't think I haven't. Your the person I come to when I need someone to talk to, not her." He looked at the floor a moment, as if trying to find an answer in the floorboards. Then he looked back up at her. "Thats why I'm going to call it off with Vironica." She shook her head in disbelief and he squuezed her hands in his own. "Scarlet, I'm asking you to be my girlfriend. Her eyes widened as he stroaked her hair, and chuckled as her breath came out in a shaky sigh. She raised her blue eyes to his. "If this is what you really want, I'm happy." He grabbed her waist and twirled her around, laughing at the old line. The  bathroom door rattled, and she whined in his arms.
