One hot summer day, Emily was sitting in her backyard, in the shade of an old apple tree, reading a book.The book was about a boy called John, who always had amazing adventures that were always dangerous in one way or another. Emily longed for adventures like his, because all she ever did all day was lay in the shade and read. She’d loved to play tag with someone, but her older sister had really long legs and could run like the wind. It wasn’t much fun, even though Emily was the fastest runner in her class. She also had a younger brother, Charlie, who wasn’t very interesting, either. He was always playing with his cars, and Superman, and never did (or wanted to do) anything else. There were only 10 books in the series about John, and Emily had already read 9 of them. She had just started the 10th one today. She read fast, too, when she liked a book. She was sure that she’d finish the series by tomorrow.
