The story so far:
Simon squinted his eyes in in disbelief. The gorgeous woman that he just had met, had just told him that he was inside his share of "the mind". One minute he was sitting on a park bench thinking, now he was sitting on a beach, full of dark blue sand, that was a little too cold for his taste. He was choking down the absurdity of the situation. Sensing his discomfort, the woman spoke up,"Don't let the notion trouble you, dear. It's not much different than where you used to live. You'll get used to it.
After another thirty seconds of silence, Simon had finally processed the woman's words. "What's your name?", he asked. The woman looked at him with an endearing disdain, like a little girl would look at a puppy covered in it's own ****. "Just call me Esmerelda, or Mere if you prefer". Simon repeated,"Mere, Gotcha". He looked up at the sky. The moon was glowing. An orange haze gathered around it as it visibly sunk in the sky. Simon found a some peace in the sight. "That's pretty, isn't it?", said Mere. "Yeah", Said Simon, "It's pretty nice"
Mere offered her hand to help Simon stand up. Simon got to his feet and was brushing the sand off of his shorts when he saw a shooting star coming across the sky. It crashed directly into the moon, turning it into a cloud.
Shocked at what he just saw, Simon turned to look at Mere but she was no longer there. He looked up at the cloud. It was getting further and further away. Simon looked down. The sand was gone.
He was falling again, but this time with other people. A man reading a newspaper tilted his hat to greet him. The man sipped a glass of milk and wiped the mustache off of his upper lip. Simon began to wonder how the man's milk stayed in the glass. Just then the man's milk shot straight into the air, spilling all over a woman's shoes, who happened to be falling above them. The man was furious, "Hey! What's the matter with you? Why'd you have to go and do that for? Confused, Simon tried to apologize for something that he didn't even know he could do, when he landed with a thud...
As he opened his eyes, two shadowy figures began to come into focus. A man and a woman were talking. The woman apperared to be accompanied by a doctor or a scientist. He was tall and skinny and was wearing a white lab coat with thick glasses. He had greying black hair, smothered in some sort of hair product. He wore it parted to the left, split by a perfect line of scalp. They were speaking rather quietly until Simon raised his voice,"Will somebody please tell me what the hell is going ON!"
The couple turned around. It was Mere! Her friend looked at Simon with concern. Simon felt himself stand up. Involuntarily.
"Simon, I am very sorry about all of this. I know it is difficult but...Simon spoke up interrupting her,"Will you save the apologies, I just stood up without even wanting to. What the hell is going on?" The scientist motioned to Mere that he would handle this. "Look Simon, I understand thatyou are confused. But you really should just come with us and get some rest. Eat something sleep awhile". Simon impatience grew," No absolutely not, not until I find out what is going on" The scientist shrugged,"Very well Simon. Like Mere told you, you are inside of the mind, the conscious mind that all humans share" Simon cut in,"Yeah I know"
"Hey! Don't interrupt me again boy. I'm trying to help you". Simon felt a bit embarrassed and settled himself. He looked at Mere and she was not smiling. He apologized to the scientist, "Sorry", he said. "It's quite alright. Now just listen. You somehow managed to think your way inside of the mind. We don't know how it happened and we are trying to figure that out now. It's not that we don't like you, but it is a little strange that you just popped in here" "A little strange?", asked Simon. "I know, I know, you probably never realized it before, living out there, but your thoughts are the most powerful weapons you possess. Your thoughts can change things. Like that man's milk, you ruined his day and if he weren't so nice he could have eliminated you like that..
Simon broke in, "What!? I didn't want his milk to fly out of his glass. I never asked for that. The doctor laughed, "Did you hear that Mere? He said "asked". They shared a chuckle. "Stop it, Edward. He's from Earth, he doesn't know any better.
Simon sat back down on the ground. "I'm really glad you two find this so funny".
Edward walked toward Simon, "I'm sorry, but that whole "asking" thing always gets me. Tell me Simon, what religion do you play? Simon shook his head, "I don't know, my mom's catholic and my father's Jewish. I never really picked one up, but I guess you could call me a Catholic.
"Oh, boy that is my favorite one! Contradictions, hypocrisy, violence, it's all there. Forget about all of that. There is no asking here, no praying. Here we just think. You can think anything you want. People can access your thoughts, and you can access theirs. When you think about something it happens. Just then an elephant sat down next to Simon. Simon tried to run, but couldn't move his legs.
Mere and Edward laughed again. "What made you think of elephants, dear?" asked Mere. Simon looked back. The elephant was gone. "I don't know, it just came into my head", said Simon. "Our mind", said Mere. "Yeah mind, whatever" Simon paced around. "I am going to destroy this place" Edward put a hand on his shoulder, "Not if you stop worrying, son. This place is just a collection of thoughts. Earth isn't much different. As a matter of fact, I find Earth to be rather frightening. Your world is shaped by actions which are shaped by thoughts, but actions can control and alter thoughts greatly. Then can be one man ruling a million people, treating them terribly. But it still takes a long time for their situation to change. They need action. Here we need thoughts, no one can get into a position like that here. We shaped our world just by thinking. We created the beginning and we can create the end. Sure it can get weird and scary sometimes, but most days this place is great. You can have whatever you want, just as long as it doesn't bother anybody else. You'll get used to it"
Mere rubbed Simon's face with her hand, "Yes Simon, just relax.
