"Mr. Garfield, I don't get why you are doing this!" Angelica sounded nervous. "Please, put the gun down, Mr." She panicked. He had his gun aimed at her right on her chest.
He swallowed hard. He could feel the eyes on him. He was not planning it to be like this but the idea of self-preservation enveloped him like an unstoppable current. At the side of his eyes, he saw somebody made a call. His mind told him it was the police he was calling. The police would be coming at any moment, he was certain.
"Oh, please... Don't do it... Mr. --"
Angelica was not able to finish her line as a loud gunshot filled the air. Angelica froze in horror. She was not expecting that the man who once saved her could be this dangerous.
The man who made a call fell lifeless on the floor. People were running out of the restaurants. Seconds later, he heard the police siren. He could feel his heartbeat and the throbbing of his head.
He quickly turned to the other side of the table where Angelica froze in terror. He held her around her neck with his arms. Policemen came in banging the door. They were aiming their guns at him.
"Put the gun, down!" commanded one of those men in uniforms.
"**** you, bastards! You are out of this! This is none of your business." Mr. Garfield shouted at the authorities. "Don't move any closer or I'll crack her skull!" Garfield spat. He could feel his sweat running down all over his body.
It's time to move! He told himself. Without any warning, he ran to the nearest door, less than two meters from where they stood. He still had the girl. He forcefully dragged her along. Gunshots filled the air once more. Policemen were folllowing them. Garfield ran as fast as he could. He was able to get out of the restaurant through the fire exit at the back.
More than a minute of chasing, the policemen were not able to track him. He went out of their sight. They continued searching but there was no single sign of him. He disappeared with her like a thin smoke.
At that moment, they were in a tunnel. There was darkness all around them and a smell of some rotten things which she could not identify. Angelica was crying helplessly like a little girl who lost her mother.
"Shut up!" She heard Garfield shouted at her. She could not see him but she knew that she was just a few meters away from her. "Shut up, or I'll gonna cut your throat!" He added. She could feel the anger in him. She could also feel herself shaking terribly.
She could feel him moving closer at her. "You know, it's all your fault." He said the moment he was in front of her. "If you didn't went hysterical there, catching everybody's attention, then this thing will not happen."
"What do you want from me?" Angelica asked in a shaky voice.
"You. I want you." Mr. Garfield sounded amused of himself. "I want to end the misery of the guilt I have for sixteen years and I could not stand it anymore. And that could only be done if you would be gone!" He sounded like a madman.
Angelica tried to regain herself and looked around. She was not sure where would the tunnel end and where it would lead her BUT she was certain to save herself from Mr. Garfield.
