"Postpartum Homicide"

The Plan  by michelleregan

The plan was to end his life as painlessly as possible.  She didn't want to make a mess and she didn't want any questions as to the reality of his death.  She was currently debating between food poisoning and planning a freak accident.  She wanted to make sure that the life insurance money was issued immediately.  She also wanted to make sure he would be good and dead.  She would have his family pay for all of the funeral expenses and then she would make her getaway with the life insurance money.

She was planning to take their daughter to Mexico to live happily ever after.  She didn't want to kill her husband but it seemed to be only logical solution to all of her problems.  They had been having financial problems ever since she decided to be a stay-at-home mom for Isobel. Ryan simply was not making enough money to cover the expenses for all three of them.  He questioned her every expenditure and it drove her nuts.  Every coffee, every outfit, even when she bought something for Isobel, there was always a struggle to defend her purchase.
On top of that Sara felt trapped.   She had nowhere to turn.  Ryan was always at work and Sara was always longing for adventure.  Their neighbors weren't much for chit-chat and Sara's friends lived too far away to visit too frequently.  Obviously, they were not aware that their best friend was planning the homicide of her husband.  No one knew.  Sara had thought about ending his life throughout the past year and was finally ready to execute a plan into action.
Sara had been reading up on various food poisoning techniques (much thanks to the local library) and also browsed the internet on recent freak accidents.  Accidents like electrocution in the bath tub, falling down the stairs, and incidents involving sharp objects like chainsaws.  After the thorough research she had decided against the freak accident option.  She had read an article about a woman trying to kill her husband in the bathtub by throwing in the toaster while he bathed but because the toaster was plugged into a GFI outlet the fuse blew and the toaster did nothing but cause a major rift in their marriage.  Sara did not want to take any chances.
