"Two Steps Back" -> "Two Steps Back Chapter 2"

A Step Forward?  by mayday8281

Jane couldn't believe what she just heard at Dr. Allister's office.  Nevermind her rememberance of everything that had happened when she was eight.  She always felt like she knew and remembered that anyways.  But this man.  Could it be that he was abducted and abused by aliens as well?

"At least I know I'm not totally losing my mind."  Jane talking to herself as she walks down the busy New York street doesn't stop her from getting looks.  She smiles politely and moves into a nearby coffee and internet cafe.

Dr. Allister said he could contact her as soon as he set up a time between her and Howard.  The great doctor said he would only introduce the two on a first name basis.  What they did afterwards was out of his control.  At least the meeting would be in his office under his immediate supervision.

Don't want to meet some possible crazy guy in public and have God knows what happen to me! Jane thinks to herself.  I mean, if he's seeing a shrink...  well, I can't think like that.  I'm seeing a shrink.  The same shrink.

Jane sighs.  Another long line to get coffee.  At least most of the cafe is empty.  She can do some research quietly online.

"Mocha frap, please."

Maybe nix the caffeine?  Jane adds, "Better make that decaf."

Finding a table in the back corner, Jane makes herself comfortable.  She first checks her email.

"Nothing.  Damn."

Oh well.  She moves on to some forums that she stumbled upon last year.  AlienAbductions.com; IWasAbducted.com; alien-ufos.com.  Lots of good folks there.  Lots of information and everyone there leaned on everyone else.  It seems like the only place where Jane could be Jane is when she was online; screen name janieNY1946 still hiding her true identity.

Though Jane got a lot of information and some helping words, she never heard of another person having such a similar experience as her and Howard had.  It seemed that most of the people on the websites had "TV abductions."  They watch see an abduction on a TV show or movie, then dream about it later that night.  So they assume that happened to them.

Or they just want to ride the alien bandwagon.  They want to appear on Ricki Lake or Jerry Springer, "I cheated on you with an alien and I'm pregnant."  Jane laughs.  Okay, that would be a little far fetched, but crazier things have happened.

More and more people are coming out saying they were abducted, and it's the same story: they beemed me up, probed me and put me back on Earth.  Not probable.  These people live normal lives.  They're not suffering from nightmares almost every night.  They're not having visions that cause breakdowns at work or in their daughter's school play. Fakes, that's what they are.

But good-natured, I do believe.  Jane clicks on a button to start a new post.

"To All New Members"

"I'm looking for abduction stories close to mine.  Please share how you were abducted with the forum.  Or, if you prefer, please feel free to email me.  I would love to share my story with you as well."

Hopefully that'll get some hits.  Jane submits the new post, as she sees Kelly Paer walk into the cafe.

Kelly sees Jane and beelines it to her.  Jane quickly clicks off the websites, as if she was getting ready to leave.

"Well, Jane.  I haven't seen you in weeks." Kelly seems excited at first, then a somber look rolls over her.  "How have you been doing?  You feeling okay?"

Kelly was Jane's boss and was the person in charge of putting Jane on her mental leave of absence.

"Oh, I'm alright.  Been hanging in there.  In fact, I'd really like to schedule some time to come in and talk with you and the board."

Kelly stutters, "Oh, well.  Is that right, Jane?  I mean..."

Just then, Jane's cell phone rings.  "Dr. Allister's Office" shows up on her caller ID.

"Oh, I have to take this," Jane interrupts.  "I'll call your secretary and set it up.

"Hello, Dr. Alllister?"

"Yes, Jane.  I have the appointment set-up for you and Howard to meet here.  Is Thursday at two still good for you?"

"Of course.  I will see you both then.  Oh, and Dr. Allister?  Thank you."
