Do not wait for others to give you responsibilities. Take them up yourself.
A small village in (Telengana) Andhra Pradesh, Nakkerkal, had a major water problem. The villagers had a trudge long distance to fetch water.
Banda Pakeer, a poor villager, felt that digging a tank would provide a solution to the problem. But people in the village, he knew, would scoff at his suggestion. So he decided to take the task upon himself.
Every morning he would walk down to the sot he had selected to dig the tank. He would dig for two hours. For two years he kept himself doggedly at this task. The villagers saw him leaving for work every morning. They did not think he could achieve anything working alone. After two years, one day some of them went and took a look at what he was doing. They were impressed by the determination of the man and what he had achieved.
They realized that if they also helped him, then the village would get a bigger tank. They all chipped in. a huge tank were ready for their use in a few days.
The village now gets its year long water supply from this tank which filled up with rain water. But for the effort of this determined man, the people of the village would still be trudging long distance to get water.
The most interesting fact about this tale is that the man who thought of digging the tank, Banda Pakeer, is totally blind-he has been so since birth.
