Sholan sat in the corner, tears streaming down her cheeks as she held the napkin up to her mouth-knowing it would do no good at all. The outbreak had come so suddenly, none of them were prepared for the epidemic. And what was worse-no one even knew what it was. She screamed and threw her arms up in the air as she pinned herself against the wall as her fiancé crawled into the kitchen. Large boils seemed to have covered his body in a mere ten minutes, and his eyes were an advanced shade of yellow. The quickness of which this epidemic took its victims was astounding-but even Sholan, one of the highest ranking virologists in the Southeast, was not thinking about that as she watched her fiancé shrivel like a wilting rose in the matter of a half hour. He had been fine when he had come home from his job at the airport. But he had awoken in the night coughing up a storm, eventually coughing up bile and blood. Immediately, Sholan went to call an ambulance. That was where she was when he had crawled out from the bedroom, his throat so constricted by the boils that had overtaken his whole body-inside and out-that he was gasping for air and choking on his words and even his own spit. As she ran out, she could hear his nails scraping against the floor as he began to convulse, aspirating on his own blood, bile, and vomit. Sholan ran out the door into the street, feeling the vomit slide up her throat. She turned down the alleyway, and threw up next to the stinking dumpster. When she drew her hand away from her mouth after wiping the vomit off, she let out another blood curdling scream. Yellow bile and blood. She fainted before the boils began to overtake her body. Nonetheless, the virus consumed her before she could wake up again…
