Chapter One: a photo worth a thousand words  by jermccloud

Jimmy had a passion for photography.  He was still young, but was very skilled, talented and full of imagination.  Working on completing a portfolio of his work, Jimmy stood at his final location, getting the last shots that he hopped would complete his work.

Bare footed, his feet had sucken into the sand.  He stood still for a moment framing up his shot.  It was going to be beatiful, the sun was just setting making silouttes of the people on the beach, laying a golden hue over everything.

A stip of buildings, mostly hotels curved around to the right, reflecting the suns golden light.  Just in the forground to the right was the wooden steps and platform.  A little girl came and sat down on them, elbows on her knees and her little hands making a cup to hold her face.  She watched as the sun went down behind the ocean.

This was the shot, Jimmy thought.  He backed away, and framed the scene.  He opened the shot up, allowing the view to see what the little girl would find so facinating, and snapped a picture.  He was done, and was excited to rush home and complete his work.

He loaded the photos into his computer.  Scrolling through and picking out the photos he liked most.  He looked at the last picture that he took, admiring it's beauty and going over every little detail.  But then he saw it, there was something beneath the platform where the girl was sitting.  A chill ran down Jimmy's spine.

He clicked the little magnifying glass tool and zoomed in, to see if he could make it out. Jimmy saw a hand, slowly fading away in the shadows, just underneath the little girl!  Jimmy quickly made some adjustments to try and enhance the photo, to pull out more detail.  He adjusted the brightness and contrast to try and get a clear photo.  He jumped back in shock, how could this have been?!  A young woman, layed beneath the platform, reaching out her arm to the little girl.  The womans face covered in cuts and bruises.

It was getting late, Jimmy grabbed a flashlight and a jacket and rushed out the door.
