The story so far:
The Catholics of humanity had it right: there was a Purgatory, where spirits in a state of grace were made ready for Heaven. In fact, if the conditions were just right (humidity, the amount of electromagnetism in the atmosphere, barometric pressure, etc.), then Purgatory made itself known to the living. The viel between the living and the dead would be pushed aside just enough for the two realms to partially merge, giving way to what breathers called "ghosts."
Not only ghosts, the Collector thought as he made his way from one location in Purgatory to another. My kind, too... demon-kind...
In some cases, breathers were able to break the physical rules of the veil, being able to send their spirit-selves into the land of the dead while their bodies remained where they were. This was the case with the man the Collector had just chased from the Fogg Prison: a man named Victor and his so-called "ghost hunters." He knew that Victor was one of these spirit-walkers, but there was another among the group that had disturbed him: a female of the species named Sid. For whatever reason, a Protector had attached itself to her and, as all of demon-kind knew, the Protectors were not to be trifled with. They were right under the Holy Order of Angels, only one step above humans, but blessed nonetheless. The Collector surely had to do something to distract Sid's guardian before continuing his trip to the Bachman home...
While still in motion, he mentally summoned four lesser demon-kind to his side and shifted his course for a small detour. He had a plan - when did he not? - that would buy him some time to reach the Bachman home with minimal interference from the Protector. The Collector knew that a Protector didn't just protect its assigned ward, but their family as well. Time to make a pit-stop...
