Randomosiphies of the idle mind - part 2 - "WINDMILL"  by insert_username_here

There once was a girl-
curly-haired, green-eyed.
She sat reading a book
while on her a little boy spied.
She was all alone
as she had always been,
dreaming of the day
when she would find her family again.
A few minutes passed
in the garden so still
'till the little boy ran
until he reached the windmill
spinning, slow and benign
on the other side of the hill.
The girl saw him run,
and her did curiosity overtake.
She followed his path-
a summer breeze whispering in her wake.
She sped to the mill
where the boy disappeared
and crawled through a door,
thinking, "He must have gone here."
What she did see
Made her gasp in surprise,
for a flaxen-furred rabbit lay there
panting, alone, tears streaming from its eyes.
"Oh, you poor thing!"
The girl cried in despair.
She abandoned her search,
And embraced the small hare.
In response to her touch,
the creature transformed,
and there lay the boy
looking not at all forlorn.
He opened his eyes
and stared up at her.
He smiled, and said,
"I shall turn the lights on, if you prefer."
The girl looked about
as brightness appeared
and she saw, without doubt,
that a whole world existed here.
The boy got to his feet
"You have found Ureshibasho," he said,
"Because, on your shoulders,
you have a good head.
"This is the place
where all dreams come true.
for kind people everywhere,
for me and for you."
The girl stood silently
and looked around.
She saw emerald-green grass
and yellow sun smiling down.
With the boy she did go,
sharing stories and laughter.
There she did stay,
happy,
forever and long after.

A young man passing by
on a New York street
picks up a newspaper
in a rack by his feet.
He hands the clerk a dollar
And goes on his way.
"Orphan girl and boy found dead"
He reads, on the front page.
A blond-haired boy
and green-eyed girl
are lying in the grass. holding hands
while a windmill peacefully does twirl.
