The un-winning bid (Prologue)  by floridabatman

were hand crafted and passed down from generation to generation from father to son. I have no need for it. It just takes up space and collects dust in my attic. It has been folded 400 times and is one of the first dragon sets in its class. Bidding will start at $50. Or you may buy it now. Shipping is free, good luck and happy bidding.

A sword collector by the name, Daniel Jacobs, turns on his computer. He logs onto the website, EBay and types in his screen name and password. He has swords for his favorites and has bought well over $4,000 worth of swords from EBay alone. His favorite is the Dragon Katana. The design is so unique, plus it’s the same sword that Connor Macloud uses in the movie, “Highlander.” While browsing through the long list of sword auctions he comes across one in particular. This sword isn’t just the Katana sword but also a ninja sword along with a dagger. Buying it from the store wouldn’t do it any justice. This was an authentic Dragon Katana, battle ready, Sword. Battle ready is something all sword collectors love because it means it’s sharp and is good for protecting yourself from those evil samurai’s that might come knocking on your door. He looks at his set and takes a deep breath. Daniel wants the set but rent is due in 5 days. Daniel knows, just from experience, that clicking bid now won’t help because the bid will likely go up. Daniel eyes the screen and looks closely. He squints his eyes and reads, current bid $101. Daniel thinks to himself that’s still pretty cheap for this set. And winning this bid will complete his collection. Weighing out the pro’s and con’s the bid goes up to $200 within minutes. If he doesn’t act soon he’ll lose it. The buy it now option is $500 but he’s not sure if he wants to spend that much on a sword set. However, this sword set he won’t find anywhere else.  What to do? $225, 250, the price keeps on going up, it’s settled. Daniel moves the little pointer on his Mac Book Pro to the “buy it now” option. Victory. He has won the $500 Dragon Katana Sword. He logs into the PayPal account and applies for the credit card they offer. 60 second wait time for approval. The suspense is driving Mr. Jacobs insane! 60 seconds is just too long. He gets up and walks to his kitchen and grabs a soda from the fridge. He peaks through to check on the wait time and the loading bar is still moving. Huge sigh and returns to the kitchen. A loud crack from the can echo’s in the apartment. He slurps on the can slowly walking back to the computer area of his living room. The loading bar is done and the letters on the screen spell out one simple word A-P-P-R-O-V-E-D. His heart skips a beat as he takes a huge sigh of relief. He slides into his computer chair and glides to his desk. He types in what he needs to in order to confirm his order. Daniel clicks on pay now and waits anxiously. Payment approved.

The following week was an incredible one, anxiously awaiting for the 7-10 day shipping he couldn’t wait any longer. He had applied for 3 loans just to cover his rent that he blew on the swords. He went on daily, checking his shipment to make sure that he’s not just imagining. Daniel went to work as he did daily, and made sure that he focused on work. Focusing on the other was just too depressing. 5pm rolled around and he clocked out just as any other day. He was getting annoyed by the wait for his $500 purchased. He started to have loss hope when he checked his mail. No package, yet again. He went upstairs, to his apartment, and sat on his computer. He began to type a very long and rude e-mail. Just as he was about to push send a knock was at the door. The words that he was typing in the e-mail made him jump. He got up and crawled to the door. He opened it to see a person wearing a FedEx uniform. His heart started racing. The person didn’t talk, at all, and had a rather large package in their arm. Daniel asked, “Would you like to come in, so I can make sure that it’s what I ordered?” The FedEx delivery person nodded their head yes. They walked inside. Daniel ripped open the box like it was Christmas and he was a 8 year old boy who received the gift he’d been waiting for all year. The FedEx person pulled out a very long sword. The sword was a Dragon Katana. It looked like the sword Daniel had ordered. Daniel opened the box and found nothing but long piece of wood. He began to turn towards the FedEx person, “HEY! That’s my…” The FedEx driver rammed the Sword through Daniel’s chest. The sword sliced through the rib cage like butter, piercing his heart, killing him instantly.
