The story so far:
Fiona enters the zone, wondering where she is. She is suddenly on a jet, zooming through the sky. She must be on her flight to Russia, but she doesn't remember going to the airport. A slim and young woman in a uniform walks by her and asks her if she wants anything to drink. She hands her a small bag of peanuts. Fiona struggles for five minutes, trying to open the bag and thinking that they make it hard to open to keep people busy on their flight. Airplane entertainment. Try and open our peanut bags. I dare you. The stewardess hands her a plastic glass filled with soda and ice. She finally uses her housekey to puncture the bag open, put one peanut in her mouth, and thinks to herself, mmmm, that was worth the fight.
Another stewardess slowly pushes a cart filled with trays toward her and passes out trays of food to people in front of her. When she stops by Fiona's seat, she tells Fiona the menu.
"Chicken, Beef or Lobster dish?"
"I am a vegetarian. I don't eat meat."
"Oh, OK. I'll see what I can put together for you that is vegetarian."
One hour later, after the stewardess finished passing out trays to all the passengers, she finally brings Fiona a vegetarian plate.
" We put together a salad, fruit, bread and butter, and pasta salad dish. And here is a can of orange juice."
As she eats, the movie screen is lowered and she relaxes in her seat, seat belts fastened and wool blanket in her lap, nibbling on her food as she watches. What is this movie? Something about it is very deja vu. The actress looks familiar. It looks like her, but on the screen. She wonders if any of the other passengers notice that the actress looks like her as she looks around to see a dark airplane with dark human shadows attentively watching the screen. She suddenly hears her name in the movie.
"...Fiona Leigh, famous fashion model, flies to Russia on assignment and never returns. What happened to her whereabouts? what..."
There is a crashing sound on the screen, then a large fire scene. The screen suddenly gets messed up, and it is filled with static and snow. Passengers groan and moan, wanting to watch the movie to see what happened to Fiona Leigh. People start to shout out questions to the stewardesses, inquiring about the movie.
"Oh, ****! What's going on here?"
"What happened to the movie?"
"We want to see what happened to Fiona Leigh!"
A stewardess calms them down, telling the it is a little rough outside, and the movie will continue when the storm subsides. The pilot's voice comes on the intercom, telling the passengers about a storm, but everything is under control. The airplane starts to shake, moving up and down, making Fiona airsick. She takes a couple of deep breaths and tries to relax, sinking into her seat and trying to sleep it off. The woman, next to her, turns to her and starts a conversation.
"Hi, I hope I'm not bother you, but I was trying to get up the nerve to talk to you. I love you writing. I know you are Lelou Belle. I know your face. You have your own page in the magazine. I read the fashion magazine you work for religiously. Your job must be fun. I've always wanted to be a writer, but I can't write. What is it like to be a famous writer?"
"Huh? What? Famous Writer? Eh...yeah, sure, famous writer..that's me, I am the famous writer, Lelou Belle. Well it is quite fun because I get to travel. I am going to Russia right now for a writing assignment. I also have many homes and a yacht. My job has really blessed me with a great life."
As Fiona talks, she realizes that she is answering the woman's question in a monotonous and robotic manner that sounds scripted. She is not even aware what she is saying, and hears a voice being blurted out from her mouth, responding to the woman's question. Suddenly, the woman asks Fiona for her autograph. The woman hands Fiona a copy of AvatarFashions Magazine. As Fiona starts writing the letter F in cursive on the magazine, the F turns into an L, and Lelou Belle flows out of her pen in blue ink, as her left hand moves on the page. She thinks to herself that she is right handed. Why is she writing with her left hand? The airplane shakes violently, a woman screams in the back of the airplane, and there is a blackout. Silence. No voices. No Stewardesses. No passengers inquiring what's going on. The woman next to her is also quiet.
Fiona looks around and tries to make out her surroundings in the darkness. Nothing looks familiar. It is very dark. There is no one around her or near her. She is all alone, crawling on the floor and trying to make her way out of this dark space. Where am I? Where is everyone? Have we arrived in Russia? What is going on here?
