I Guess Forever Meant Until Someone Else Came Along: Chapter 1  by fatedtosilence

Scarlett’s POV_

I pushed open the blue doors of the hell hole I’ve been trapped in since this morning. Yes, school is a hell hole. Well mine is, anyway. The crisp October air filled my lungs and I squinted my eyes from the bright sun. I started walking home when I felt someone’s hands grab me around the waist. I turned around to see Jake smirking down at me.

“Why do you gotta do that to me? It’s kinda creepy since you know, I don’t have eyes on the back of my head,” I said annoyed. I was glad he was with me but that whole grabbing-me-from-behind freaks me out. He moved up next to me and grabbed my hand.

“I do it because I love you,” he said, kissing me on the cheek. “And ‘cause I know it freaks you out.” I looked over to him to see him smiling down at me, and I couldn’t help smiling back. I squeezed his hand tighter and we continued walking home. Jake and I had always had something, we just hadn’t done anything about it. That was until last summer. Our families were close friends so we knew each other since we were younger. Even if they weren’t, I was bound to meet him sooner or later. It’s not like our neighborhood is big. We walked past Sage’s house and saw her and Damon sitting on the porch. Sage and Damon were the weirdest people I knew so it made perfect sense that they were best friends. Damon ran off the porch over to us and grabbed Jake’s arm.

“Hey boo,” He said winking at Jake.

“Hey sexy,” Jake whispered back. I couldn’t hold back my laughter, they always do that. Though neither of them are gay, they pretend they are and talk about getting together. Sage came over and gave Jake a hug, then me. Jake pulled Damon into a hug and they both started making noises.

“What are you guys doing? You can’t be together!” Sage yelled, going along with them.

“Yes we will,” Damon yelled back, rubbing Jake’s back. “When Jake finally can see what he’s missing!” I laughed at the expression on Damon’s face. It was a mix between shock and anger, and his mouth was still hanging open. He pushed Jake away from him and stomped back to the porch. “You’re such a tease!” Damon yelled running into the house. Sage rolled her eyes.

“Sometimes you guys take your relationship too seriously,” She said. “Now he’s probably up in my room doing something he shouldn’t be.” Her eyes widened and she ran back to the house screaming Damon’s name at the top of her lungs. I laughed and grabbed Jake’s hand. We started walking to my house and I was just thinking about my parents. They wouldn’t be home. They never are this early.

“So how was your day?” Jake asked. I didn’t mind our silence but I guess he didn’t like it so much.

“It was as boring as usual. . . Gym was weird,” I answered. In gym I had some dude judging my gym clothes. Jake laughed.

“I wish I was in your gym class,” He said, winking at me.

“Yeah, yeah of course you do.”

“So are your mom and dad home today?” Jake asked, stopping in front of my house.

“Of course not,” I said, looking into the empty driveway. It kind of made me upset that my parents were never home for me, but when I thought about them actually being home I’d probably wish they weren’t.

“Then I’m staying.” Jake smiled down at me and pulled me toward the house. He hated when I was alone, and he always told me he’d be there if I wanted him to be. And he would be there even if I didn’t want him there. He dragged me up the porch steps and grabbed the key from under the mat.

We really need to find a better place for that. . . It’s so obvious, I thought as I watched Jake open the door. He threw his books on the floor and fell back onto the living room couch.

“I don’t feel like working either,” I said plopping down next to him. Homework, in my opinion is the stupidest thing ever made. I have a life and the teachers are just making it more difficult! I leaned against Jake and pretended to snore. He wrapped his arm around me and I really felt like I was going to fall asleep. I just layed there for a while and before I could stop myself I was in my own little coma.

I woke up to the sound of feet on the floor and a crash of something else to the floor. I looked around and I saw Jake at the front door.

“Sorry, Scar, I have to go home. My mom’s pissed ‘cause I didn’t tell her I was over here, and she’s going to be even more pissed if I’m not home for dinner.” He opened the door and ran over to me and kissed me on the lips. I really didn’t want him to go. I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him again and he pulled away first. “Scar, you know I got to go,” He moaned. “I’m sorry.” He said giving me one last hug.

“It’s okay,” I whispered as he walked back to the door

“I love you,” He said, looking at me with a pained expression on his face.

“Love you too, Jake,” I said, giving him a big smile. He smiled and closed the door. I layed back on the couch again and sighed. It was already dark and I was alone. Just like every other night. I closed my eyes and tried going back to sleep, hoping I’d dream of a better reality.
