The Winds of Michigan - Part II  by chrystalrose

It was supposed to be the best family vacation since SeaWorld, six years back. At least, that’s what my parents had said. “It’ll be great fun,” Mom had said. “You’ll love the snow there,” Dad had exclaimed. And to think, I’d fallen for it! Looking back, I could see how they’d schemed against me, tempting me with their exaggerated tales of growing up in ‘The Wolverine State.’ And no wonder I bought into it, considering our track record with vacations. It was a rare thing, really - for the whole family to pack up and drive hundreds of miles just to spend some quality time together. Even more enticing was the idea of seeing my grandparents, whom I’d never met – at least, not that I could remember. I was genuinely enthusiastic about the prospect of spending two long weeks with them. Had I known how it would turn out – how dull and ultimately uninspiring those two weeks would be – I doubt I ever would have stepped foot out of the house. No, I would have screamed, punched, and clawed my way to the safety of my room – anything to avoid spending any length of time in such a bland, almost lifeless town. But, alas, it was too late for regrets; I’d fallen for their trick, and I was paying the price.
