Leon, you must wake up, it is starting.

Leon Wilson awoke suddenly, it was a Wednesday morning and he felt extremely uneasy, like something was different that day. He sat up in his bed and had to sit on its edge for a minute, he had always found waking up real hard, though now he felt as if he had just come out of a coma. The grey hue coming from outside filled the room slightly through an opening in the curtains, some sunshine would surely brighten his mood he thought for himself. His bedroom contained only of a bed, a nightstand, and a big closet filled with regular clothes and his police uniform. Leon sat on his bed for another minute, eyes closed and sighing heavily, he opened his eyes slowly while looking down at the floor, something was indeed different this morning, something he could not put his finger on.

The sound of sizzling bacon could be heard throughout his small apartment only minutes later, he made an omelett breakfast whilst noticing the greyish though very bright lighting outside, he hoped that it wouldn`t rain today, he had a strange feeling his wish would come true even though dark clouds filled the sky. Leons  apartment was small, with only a bedroom, a bathroom and a livingroom with a kitchen in its corner, though it was a fairly new apartment he wished he could own something bigger in the near future, perhaps the promotion he hoped for would remedy that. After finishing breakfast he swiftly jumped in the shower while brushing his teeth at the same time, then he put on his uniform, got out, and got in his newly aquired but not new Ford Escort, not an especially fine looking car, though its silver-grey color complimented it. As usual he got to work half an hour before he was supposed to be there.

"Wilson!", the Chief Inspector shouted from across the room, gesturing with his hand at Leon, inviting him to his office. The workplace consisted of a big room where cabinets lined the walls and twelve paper stacked desks dotted the floor, an officer could be seen at almost every desk. The sound of chatter and phones ringing could be heard here often. Leons desk was by the window between two other desks, he got up as the Chief called his name. Upon entering Chief Alderrys office Leon closed the door silently, windows with blinds separated the Chiefs office from the rest of the small department, the office including the room outside was the whole department. "Well, sit down please.", Alderry said while smiling, he was an elderly tall man in his fifties, slightly overweight and balding, he held out his hand towards the chair opposite his own on the other side of his desk, peeking over his glasses, the chair creaked as Leon sat down. "Do you remember me telling you of the strange occurences happening on the countryside near Westerford in Cornwall?", Leon nodded once and listened on. The Chiefs brother was a police officer situated in that area, and everyone at this department had heard of the occurences from Alderry last week when those working here met at the local pub. Alderry continued his story, "The strange sightings were no cause of alarm, though they seemingly have been going on for over a year now, but yesterday a body was found in Westerford, and my brother is asking for assistance, this small town haven`t seen a crime of this caliber in quite some time, my brother moved there right before his retirement because of just that. With only a year before he can live out the rest of his days in peace, something like this happens". Leon sensed something different about Alderrys voice, as if he sounded scared.

The conversation between Leon and the Chief continued. "Ahem!", Alderry cleared his throat, paused a moment and started fiddling with a pen, averting his gaze from Leon to his pen, suddenly seeming slightly uncomfortable in his chair. "Since you have handled, or rather taken part in, two murder investigations, I am sending you to Westerford to assist my brothers department...  the main forces, the bigger offices outside Westerford, are seemingly not gonna do a thing about it, only Westerfords office is doing anything, and only because my brother thinks there is something to this besides an accident". Alderry looked up from his pen, staring at Leon through his glasses. The Chief was a few years from retiring himself, old age had taken a toll on his body, Leon noticed Alderrys bald head glistening from the bright light shining through the window opposite the door to the office. And he also noticed that it was still too bright outside, dark clouds like these wouldn`t usually let so much light through them. He looked back at the Chief, "I`m not sure I am qualified for this." Leon shifted in his chair. "I only helped in those murdercases, with smaller things, nothing of importance, is there no one else in this department that you can send?" The Chief shifted in his chair as well. "You have always shown prowess, and is more resourceful than anybody else here." The Chief said before continuing, slightly ignoring Leons plea, "This murder is still considered an accident, and the Devon and Cornwall Police department don`t think there`s any point in sending anyone there, but I trust my brother, and his judgement. He said there was something... off, about this... death. I can feel it in my gut, theres something to it, this death in Westerford, something weird. Because I have never heard my brother like that, he sounded very strange on the phone, it made me worry." Leon looked at the Chief, feeling slightly uneasy, there it was again, that strange feeling he felt earlier today. "Please, give me a day or two to consider this." Leon said while getting up from his chair. "One day, tomorrow after lunch you report back to me." Leon felt uneasy once again, as well as slightly nauseated for some reason, what was it that made him feel this way he wondered. "And Wilson... If you accept this assignment you will temporarily be promoted to sergeant." Alderry smiled, Leon left the office, he knew something besides travelling to Westerford was about to change, something big. The next day he accepted the job.
