The Purple Scarf  by azblonde1961

As Tammy was pulling out of the driveway she noticed Pam's purple scarf laying in the passenger seat.  The last time she remembered seeing it was the day Pam checked in to the hospital for the last time.  Even though it was spring time it was a chilly morning and Pam had wrapped this scarf around her head and face.  How could this scarf end up in her car, Tammy wondered.  She did not remember taking it from the hospital.  Was her mind playing tricks on her?

She could hear the Blue Jay stirring in the box and knew she needed to hurry to the Wild care Organization.  Pam would be so proud of her for taking the time to take care of this bird.  Pam always loved animals had begged time and time again to get a dog.  If only we had gotten a dog before it was too late.  She had not wanted the responsibility of a dog and thought it would only keep them stuck staying home.  As she pulled in to the parking lot of the Wild care Organization she continued to think back about when she could have possibly put this scarf in her car.  It just didn't make sense.

Tammy carried the bird in and said a short prayer to Pam.  Pam, I so miss you every moment of every day.  I want you to know I will try every day to be a better person.  I know you would have wanted me to take care of this bird and I'm doing this for you.  I wish I would have been more understanding of your love for animals....

Tammy explained what had happened to the bird and she could feel her voice shaking.  She quickly left before she began to cry.  Is this emptiness every going to go away, this big empty hole deep in my heart.

Her next stop was at Goodwill to drop off the Red Shoes.   She just pulled up to the Goodwill bin and threw them in.  The thought of taking them in and having to talk to anyone just seemed unbearable right now.  Tammy had never liked those shoes.  She wondered why Pam was always trying to get her to dress up when she knew from the very first time they met that she just preferred the casual look.  A sweater with a nice pair of kakis or jeans and a pair of sneakers is what worked best for her.  Her mind wondered back to the day they met and realized Pam was wearing that very same Purple Scarf.
