RED ROSES

(LOVE STORY)

Sunday mass in the church was a weekly routine for David since his childhood. He has no memories of his parents or any information about his family background. He in fact never knew that he was an orphan until he reached primary grade. For him, Father D’souza was his father and mother both and inmates of the orphanage his siblings.  He was father’s favorite and brilliant in studies too. He topped the school in board exams and was given scholarship by the mayor to complete his studies further. He had to leave the orphanage and come out in the world. A young lad of 15 was all alone to face the challenges. Since then he has come a long way. He is an Air-force pilot today. Years after he left the orphanage, he is attending his first Sunday mass. He was standing with his eyes closed when someone brush passes him. He opens his eyes to find two ladies crossing by him. One is middle aged, curly hair and possibly the mother of the young beautiful girl walking quietly behind her. He is spellbound by her beauty and the freshness in her looks. He thinks they are new in the town. But when he turns around, he finds all the faces new. So, it’s he and not they who is new to the place. In the meantime he loses her track and tries to search them but in vain!

David is here for a month long vacation. How he longed to be back here. But today he feels lonely here because all the inmates are strangers to him.  He has developed the hobby of playing guitar since his childhood. Whenever he felt lonely, he would sit on the rocks by the sea-shore and play passionately in an attempt to run from the reality and be one with the nature. Today again he feels like an orphan maybe because now he understands what family ties are! He had been to his colleague’s house for brief visits often. For the first time he understood what mother really is, what father and siblings means. He wondered how lucky his colleagues are! They must be having a nice time with their families and he is here all alone. Frustration inside him is to the limit today. Not knowing whom to share his feelings with, he took his guitar and moves towards the sea-shore.
