Divya and Ami (part 5)  by avantika

But soon one day, his predictions came true,   the arrow mark was complete with all fourteen stars and meteors rained fire on earth. There was death all around. Everybody was killed. But luckily, bhimsen survived to witness and write it down. He spent a lone and long life there. He made the temple with his own hands and researched about future disasters. In the further pages he wrote that for every natural disaster there is a solution present within earth. It’s only the question of finding it on time. He seemed to have found the solution. Because he had written, “if only they had believed me and allowed me to carry on with my work, the disaster could have been averted.  But pity it could not happen so. Maybe it was destined to be so!” He predicted that life will again bloom on this planet and man will reach the highest levels of advancement. It will be possible to travel across the world within hours, talk and see a person sitting miles away and nights will be as bright as day. At such a time the earth will face a much more dangerous disaster. A fiery monster will come to gobble earth. There will be danger to entire solar system. This will be indicated by the similar signs in the sky. An arrow mark, made up of fourteen stars in the north. That will be the ultimate end. He wrote in bold letters “But as I said earlier, there a solution to every problem, so even that disaster has an answer which has been brought down from the stars in this meteor rain. I hope someone finds this book before its too late. So, here I keep this book, in the temple.”

‘knock! Knock!’ the knock on the door distracted divya.

“Divya….” It was her mom calling. She was banging the door since quite long and was worried since she did not give any response. Divya was so engrossed in reading it, that she was as if living in that era. She quickly hid the book under the table and opened the door.

In the night, while having dinner, she discussed it with her parents. Her dad said “ oh, that sounds interesting. But don’t take it too seriously. There always have been threats to our planet by the passing comets from time to time. But always remember that god has gifted man with brains. And with so much advancement in science and technology, such challenges can be handled. So, you need not worry and concentrate on your studies.” Divya was not convinced. She said “but dad, whatever he predicted has come true. Even the fiery monster described by him, don’t you think is the one that recently came towards earth. If that’s true, then, maybe we are still in danger.” Dad smiled and replied “comets coming across planets are a common phenomenon. It’s not difficult to predict such things.” Divya sat quite. Her silence showed she was still not convinced. Dad said “oh, divya please…you want to believe someone who wrote something thousands of years back, without any scientific base, and disbelief me?” Divya smiled and shook her head saying “no dad, that’s not true. I do believe you.” Dad was glad and replied “then stop bothering about it. The book may be interesting to read but you cannot expect it to be true. It’s all fictitious.”

In the night, as usual, she came out in the balcony to watch the sky. She wondered how foolish she was to take that book to heart. She looks through the telescope. She is completely surprised and a bit scared when she finds a faint arrow mark made up of exactly 14 stars, in the north. But the arrow is very faint. Divya is confused that whether she actually saw it or is she imagining things? “I better go to sleep. I think I’m too tired.” She said to herself.
