A Walk Along the Heart's Lake
by aptriplett
Extended hand, an invitation
Should you wish to walk
A clear blue lake, a quaint stone path
There's no attempt at talk
The whispered wind provides the sound
a sound without a cause
Shadows tease along this path
Prancing without a pause
If you look off to your left,
there's a scene within a play
It seems to unwind as if a web
a strand of time at bay
It takes no form, maintains no shape
but has a touch of show
It is your life, but not the seen
experiences make up its flow
You pause a moment to take it in
it cuts your breath quite short
To feel that pain and love and joy
its all too much to sort
You see your life, or at least the vein
what a life to live
Were it better , were it worse
there's nothing left to give
It carries on, there no release
When will this madness end!
At last it begins to slow down
so you can breath again
As it unwinds, you shiver some
a dawnings come to light
Pulling now your gaze away,
You heart takes off in flight
Its time to keep moving on,
a journey's left to make
You turn back down the path
along that clear blue lake
A few steps forward a shadow seems to grow
Looking up, it becomes a rose
Reaching up you grab its stem,
as you do, your sight grows dim
A tear flows down, your check feels more
a sea of emotion rages at this shore
You feel a change within your palm
its soothing, calming, as if a balm
You look to see the rose has changed
Petals gone to become what's caged
Caged within your soul and heart
all that's ever threatened to pull you apart
But as you look, it becomes something good
translation into all that you could
You have a hope, a joy, a cause
you're reminded in life to take a pause
To consider just what's meant by that rose
whose faces, whose lives for you it shows
This should not be a paining occasion
a time of hurt, of envy or degradation
Your life holds both potential and love
tossing up the rose to become a dove
It takes flight and so may you
To that rose and what it means stay true
Continue down the path, there's so much more
take it slowly, we'll start again in the morn...
