Depression  by alerion

“Finally out of the house,” I thought to myself as I walked down along the dark empty street. I noticed the night was oddly colder than usual, as a soft breeze swayed through the trees. It was a full moon tonight; its soft glow was the only thing illuminating the shadowy sidewalk. I sighed deeply as I shoved my hands in the pits of my pockets and continued walking deep in thought. My feet walked independently, at a steady pace, unaware of the direction they were headed, unclear of their final destination. When I finally drifted away from my thoughts I became receptive of the route I unwillingly ventured off to. Deep within the forest there was a twentieth century house. The walls, which were once bright and filled with color, where now bleak and stained with age. The porch that was wrapped around the entire house was fragile and seemed to have been slowly eaten away with time. As I observed further about the house, I noticed that every single window was covered by dark, black, curtains with the exception of one. As I tried my hardest to look through the window and find a reason to its exclusion, I felt a chill breeze pass by that raised every single hair on my body. Staring deep inside the window, I lifted my foot and took slow strides towards the door. Just before stepping upon the porch, a sole light turned on in that particular room as the front door slowly swayed open. Greatly alarmed I staggered backwards and ran all the way home… never looking back from where I came
