Hour 1:
Raymond Conyard stepped out onto the lawn, the grass blades piercing between his toes. He inhaled deep and enjoyed the smell of another rural morning. He and his wife, Beth, moved to this modest land to escape urban life and to raise a family. They searched for nearly a year for the perfect home and finally decided on this ranch style home just outside of Hagersville, Missouri. They got it at a good cost, too. When they moved in, they heard rumors about an abandoned research facility under the municipal building.
"Ray!" Beth's voice cut through the screen door and woke Raymond up from his daydream. "Honey, Mr. Winston called. Mike called in sick. He needs you to come in to fill in for the first half of the shift. He says Mariette will fill the last half."
Ray picked up the newspaper and bounced back into the house. Another Saturday, burned away at work. Ray worked at the Rural Bank monitoring center as an Operations Engineer, essentially maintaining the environmental systems and electrical backup.
Ray grabbed his shirt from the bed and turned back down the hallway. "Shouldn't you shower?" Beth came around the corner with mail in her hand, never looking up.
"No time." Ray stopped at the door into the garage from the kitchen and turned to do his own impression of the almost self-parodying boss: "When Stan Winston calls, he wants no voicemail."
Ray stopped when he noticed what was on the front page of the newspaper. “Honey, check it out. ‘Flu Strikes Local Community: Hagersville Community Hospital reports 40% increase in flu-related hospitalizations.’”
Looking at his watch, Ray dropped the paper and ran out the door. “Love you, babe. I’ll be back in a few hours.” Without even pulling his shirt down, he climbed into his car and pulled away.
