"Ode to a Muse"

I Know Love  by VictorMensa
If I could just ease back the throttle, cease to accellerate
Then perhaps the leash that holds me sane will not fray,
that my heart, now shuddering, will not break
I already miss her, miss you, and your light upon my all
I miss the folding of our hands, the heady breath and the body warmth, when you held me as your man.
Yet you must away to the Distant to seek out your green pasture
while I only want to bathe in your smile, humble, enraptured.
and so the plebian tongue that speaks my words, confesses my weakness: the simple desire to hold you on this night,
now and until I succumb to the eternal embrace of life's uncaring twilight
what possible utterance of sound or movement of being might I invoke that will convey the very depths of the pain I now bear?
what can my soul cast down at your feet to tell you, that I am greedily needful, that I want you here?
what a comedy of man I am become; a sinking vessel tis what I have come to be,
abandoned by the mariner, my heart's captain, upon this storm-ridden sea
and as my bow sinks slowly to be drawn into the inky deep, I taste the saltiness of my tears, crying out the love I so wish to keep...
but what does it matter, to rend the essence that within me now resides?
when I only care to see upon your visage, the sweet countours of your face, the simple affirmation that in this life your desire is satisfied.

because of you I celebrate love,
because of you I condemn love...
because of you I need love,
because of you I won't need of love...
because of you I know love...
