Blind Leading the Blind cont'd  by VictorMensa

The elevator dinged on the fourth floor then opened its doors on both ends allowing nurses with charts in the arms, and doctors with intent expressions to exit the elevator and proceed to do their rounds.

A single nurse emerged behind the other hospital staff wheeling the young woman.  She guided the gurney down the east hall where CAT/MRI Labs were found.

The chart hanging from a hook at the foot of the gurney indicated the woman had fainted or collapsed, was brought in by ambulance, and until now remained unresponsive to external stimuli.

The nurse allowed herself a moment of perverse indulgence.  Reaching out with her free hand as she pushed the gurney, she pinched the female patient just behind the ear.  Hard.

As the nurse expected the female patient did not react to the superficial injury inflicted by the nurse.

With a mental shrug and having satisfied her little flight of sadism the nurse reached the CAT/MIR labs and placed the woman inside scanning chamber four.

As the nurse exited the chamber she spotted one of the two technicians on duty and walked over to him, chart in hand.

“Aaron, I have a scan for you.”  She handed the chart to Aaron as she said this.

“Oh? What have we got?” Aaron took the chart and gave a cursory read through the description.

“So, non-responsive female in her twenties, no obvious markings, lesions, or contusions observed; and it says here witnesses described her as shopping and then abruptly collapsing into this unconscious state.”

“That’s right, captain obvious,” answered the nurse.  And with that the nurse exited the CAT/MIR labs.

Aaron grabbed his cup of coffee from the behind the counter where he had been sitting and went to chamber number four.

After preparing the C.A.T. scanner he went to the door and pressed the intercom button next to the door frame.

“Jeff, you got a minute?  I need help setting up an unconscious patient in number four.”

After a moment of static, Jeff’s voice came on the small loudspeaker.

“Yeah, be right there.”

A few minutes later, with the young woman properly secured Aaron proceeded to run the standard gamut of scans to build a viewable profile of the woman’s brain.

About an hour after the woman had first arrived a nurse was raising a side safety rail to the bed where the woman had been placed after receiving the C.A.T scan.

The nurse finished her ministrations and without a second glance left the darkened room.

A heart monitor beeped its presence, as it played sentinel to the unconscious woman.
