Anora made her way down the deserted hallway of Garland High School with quick strides. She glanced at her watch, taking heed of the time. 4:30, she thought to herself, more than enough time to catch the sunset. Her straight dark brown hair was held in a single braid which swayed and brushed against the middle of her back. Her golden skin glowed as she walked underneath each of the hallway lights. Her wide slant almond-shaped eyes were an impossible shade of pearl blue. When Anora walked by, the only thing anyone could see was a secluded but beautiful girl with no friends, but inside, she was so much more. Anora was the silent bomb that was only waiting for the right moment to explode.
As Anora opened the doors she was greeted by the soft whispers of the ocean's breeze. She stepped down the concrete entrance stairs and headed down the street, beecoming another figure in the sea of pedestrians. She turned into a dimly lit dead end alley and kept walking straight ahead until shecame to a tall concrete wall that was labeled with a rusty, lean sign saying,
DANGER
MEN AT WORK
DO NOT CROSS
She smiled to herself, Like thats going to stop me. She looked around to make sure she wasn't bening watched. When she was sure that she was alone, she lifted herself into the air until she was a few inches over the wall andthen slowly lowered herself on to the sandy surface of her secret beach. This was the only place she could show her true identity but most importantly, this is the place where she could reluctantly let her powers take control and show their true potential.
The ocean's wind filled her senses, almost begging her to let go of her tension. Slowly, she answered to the plea and let her worries loose with the wind. She sighed and looked out towards the horizon. The sunset was only a few minutes away, and she had to get ready for her night mare to begin as it always did ever sunset. She had always hated the sunset because it reminded her that she was never made for the planet earth, but loved it ll the same because it showed her that she more powerful than she once thought.
Anora lifted her hand to he scalp and slowly slid the brown wig off, revealing a long, flowing mane of dark purple, almost black hair. She then brought her index finger to her eyes, and took each contact off, one by one and placed them into a moist container. Anora walked towards the shore line and took a glance into the water. Staring back at her was one of the most peculiar pairs of violet eyes. They shone like beautiful violet gems as they filled with unshed tears. She hated the face that stared at her with those big violet eyes, because it reminded her daily that she was alone.
A tear fell from her eyes and made a ripple in the water, then she felt it. The sudden weakness that announced that the process of her nightmare was about to commence. Instantly, she fell to her knees waiting for whatever would happen next. This happened to her every sunset. She would feel her energy drain from her spiritual and phiycal being. Anora could feel all the energy build up inside of her . She felt a strong tingling sensation begin in the center of her forhead and hands. She tightly closed her eyes, waiting for impact. As the seconds elapsed, she lied there holding, on to life itself. Her heart stops beating and her ability to breathe is lost. The control over her thoughts is gone. Echoes of long said words repeat themselves in her mind, "Anora's Star, Anora's Star, Anora's Star, Anora's Star." Nothing shows that she is alive. The lingering weakness is like a shadow thatwont leave. Then.... it came. What she had feared all this time.
The power surge.
Anora's eyes immediately flew open in astonishment as her whole body became engulfed in heat. Her heart was threatening to burst out of her chest and with each pulse, the heat only intensified. Without her control she began to lift into the air. As she flew, the violet outline of a twenty one point star formed in the centre of her forehead, abdomen, backhands and feet. Her eyes began to glow bright violet and a silhouette of the same tinted energy formed around her entire body and expanded into an orb that encased her in almost white light. She was trying so hard to keep her powers under control, but her focus was beginning to slip under the fire that only became more unbearable. Her face was stationery, emotionless, although inside, she was shrinking away from the internal flames that licked at the inside of her body. The repetitions of the same words were coming at a faster rate. The whispers of the name were like shouts from a mountain top, " Anora's Star, Anora's Star, Anora's Star, Anora's Star." She wanted to scream at the voices to stop butwhat cost would she pay for simple comfort. If her she lost her focus then only the worst would happen.Everything came at a different time but also seemed to be following the undecided tempo. The haet, the pain, the conffusion, the blinding light. It was all too much for her to bear and she could feel her focus fading out with exhaustion and then return with determination. Everything seemed to move with the undecided beat of voices. Her hreart beat, her breathing, her control. And then with one final beat, the voives stopped altogether and all was silent. Then, as clear as crystal, Anoira heard an ominously feminine, familiar voice say, " Give in."
Anora's focus slipped from her fingertips.
She screamed and was immediately overcome by a wave of relief. The orb began to spider and the light that was being contained slipped through the cracks. The violet orb broke into a million pieces and faded before it touched the ground. The light faded untill it was completely gone. She had used all her energy storage and the sudden weakness and gravity took their toll on her. She closed her eyes and began to fall from two kilometers in the air. She heard the wind in her ears. The air seemed to have been knocked out of her and she couldnt take her last breath. Her hand was stretched towards the sky, searching for some invisible hold in the air. She could tell when she was getting closer and closer to the her sure death. For once, her mind was blank. There wasnt a million buzzing thoughts calling for her attention. It was all just dark and blank in her head.
She landed with an 'oomph', but she didnt feel or hear the breaking that was supposed to run through her body when falling from such heights.Instead she feltsomething encircle her body and her head thumped against it lightly. Arms? They were hard and ice cold. Was it true what she read in the stories. Was this what the grasp of death felt like? Honestly, she didnt care, but she greeted the cold hardness of ......of whatever it was, in comparison to the searing heat she had felt moments before.
She had gone through this process a hundreds of times before, since she was fifteen, but it had never been anywhere near that intense. Her breathing was shaky and came out in shallow gasps, her heart was only a beat above death, but atleast she was alive. Her dark hair was sprawled carelessly against her body and on the sand. The glowing of her eyes and the tattoo had stopped but her tattoo of the star refused to disappear as everything else had.
Anora had never felt so scared and confused and neither so tired. Before she could give into the unconsciousness, she felt the cold arms move the hair from her face and caress her jaw, stroking her cheek in a gentle motion. Anora fought back the darkness that was trying so hard to envelope her and forced her eyes open and with much effort they obeyed her command. Her glazed eyes were met by guarded blue gray eyes that stared intently at her. At that moment, the weariness had become too much and she blacked out with the sound of an angelic, masculine voice playing at her ear, "Its going to be alright."
