Chapter 1: The unknown voice

            “You” My hands trembled. I was scared, very scared. “You, you’re the boss.” This meant nothing, like every time I said it before, it was ineffective. I don’t understand why he demands me to repeat it. Darrell was a tall, fast, athletic, demon from hell. That’s what I thought of him anyways. Him…. It can’t be a him; humans aren’t capable of such evil. “Who’s the boss damn it?” Darrel said as he squeezed my throat. “You” I struggled to say in-between small gasps for air. By this time my eyes had swelled with tears, embarrassment soon followed. Funny here I stand alone, while yet, surrounded by at least thirty other students. They all watched this event take place, but not one person stepped in to resolve my plight. Sure Darrell’s big and scary, but he is also filled with self-doubt, if one or two of my classmates stepped in and showed disgust, this torture would cease. If he though people were not pleased with his actions he would stop right? “Stop, please…” My eyes grew heavy and slowly the world began to dim.  I hope I wake up. “Stop” I heard from the back of the crowd. The grip was loosened, the demon let go. “Who said that?”  Darrell demanded. There was only Silence. “Speak up again, and I’ll kick your **** too.” The teachers came. I was safe, for now.

            “Wake up sweetheart” My mother’s voice was gentle and soothing. If only it wasn’t followed with the worst three words in the English vocabulary. “Time for school” I didn’t respond. “Time for school honey” Maybe if I act sick I can evade the Demon for just one more day. “I don’t feel good” I put on the best puppy dog eyes I could manage. They were unsuccessful. Maybe the Demons sick today. I pray he is. Maybe I’ll meet the voice. I dreamt of the voice all night long. Stop… the most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard.
