Aqua Vitae and the Light – The Next Lifetime  by MysticPen

To be born a man was not enough to make Melinda’s unicorn a man. His spirit was still wild, untamable, and yet brilliantly tranquil. Nothing could ever bind him or move him in ways he chose not to go and so as he lived his life, he walked alone, until he saw Melinda again.

Melinda, now Rachel was at once enthralled, enchanted by the beautiful and purifying presence of his presence as she had been before. He, of course, was drawn to her brilliance as a moth to a flame. Together than ran for what seemed like ages, although truly it had only been months. For the unicorn, now Brian, these days were full, the best moments of his life. For Rachel, Brian was only one of the many fires she kept going at once.

Both were young, however Rachel had college courses, sports, and work. She participated on a debate team, volunteered for church, and prepared rigorously for the times ahead. Brian had dropped out of school early. He simply chose not to follow the rules laid out by the world. He did volunteer work and completed small jobs as he happened upon them, but he never stayed anywhere very long. He belonged to everyone and no one. His home was anywhere he happened to be.

Rachel knew that it could not last forever. She loved Brian beyond her understanding, but why, why, why couldn’t he be more responsible. Why couldn’t he prepare for life? Love would not be enough…
