The story so far:
“ Mom mom, sis is home. ” a young girl with waving blonde hair shouted excitedly as Viviane entered the neatly ordered living room of her mother’s house. “ Good evening my little sister, how is mom doing? ” Viviane said going straight to business as she ruffled her sisters golden hairs. “ Mom is not doing really well. ” the little girl said a little bit saddened, she quickly changed her expression into a hopeful smile as she looked up to her sister. “ You .. You brought the medicines right? And food? ” the girl said happily. “ Ah, of course Jennifer.. here have a small piece of bread. ” Viviane said as she handed her little sister a small piece of bread from out of her pocket. “ Thank you sis! I definitely will help you out when I’m old enough, but mom says I’m too young. ” Jennifer said letting a pout form on her face as she crossed her arms. “ I feel bad when sis has to do everything around here.. ” she quickly added letting her pout drop into a depressed face. “ Oh come on already, you do a great job at the chores.. ” Viviane said she patted her sisters head. “ Ah thanks sis, I’ll try my best. ” she said happily as she stuffed a piece of bread in her tiny mouth.
“ Good, I’ll go check up on mom then. ” Viviane said as she made her way up the stairs, along the wooden corridor until she reached the door at the end, she turned the doorknob as quiet as possible, just in case her mother would be asleep. “ Viviane? Is that you my dear? ” a soft voice came from the room, making her jump in excitement. “ Mom, yes , yes it’s me. ” she exclaimed happily as she entered the room and closed the door quickly behind her, to make her way over to the wooden bed where her sickened mother lay. “ Mom, I got the medicines and some food. ” she said as she took out a small box with medicines enough for about a week, and a half loaf of bread. “ This should be enough for today. ” Viviane quickly added, before placing herself on the side of the bed. Feeling slightly saddened and happy at the same time as her mother reached out to hold Viviane’s warm in leather gloved hand in her cold one. “ Thanks, I really appreciate it.” her mother said as she quickly swallowed one of the medicines. “ Mom, I really wish I could stay longer, but tomorrow… ” Viviane could barely finish her sentence as her mother cut through. “ Don’t push yourself just because of your father, he didn’t want this either and you know it deep down there. ” her mother said a little saddened as she placed her hand on Viviane’s chest. “ Mom, you should get some rest. Now is not the time to talk about it, here take this. ” she said as she handed her mother a small piece of bread instead of her warm hand. “ Thank you,… but as you might have noticed I don’t… ” Viviane cut through her mother’s sentence this time looking straight into her mother’s deep blue eyes. “ Listen to me mom, don’t you die on me. Not yet, I’ll find a cure so hang on. Cling onto life until I found an antidote.. wait for me. ” she said as she pushed a strain of her mother’s grey blonde hair behind her ear, letting a single tear drop down from her eyes down to the brown pants she was wearing. Her mother didn’t respond with a word, only a small smile had formed on her skinny face. “ I see. ” Viviane finally said as she rose to her feet and kissed her mother’s forehead. “ I’ll be back soon I promise.” Were her final words before she left the room knowing her mother won’t do as told, as stubborn as she always had been.
The next morning Viviane got woken up by the amusing sound of chirping birds outside the window of her room, a small hole in the curtain allowed a small strain of sunlight to crawl over her skin, she groaned slightly at the earliness as she threw her blankets to the ground and rushed down stairs to be greeted by her sister. “ Viviane, good morning. ” Jennifer exclaimed happily as she handed her sister a slice of bread. As she gained an approving nod and thanks in return, she knew the moment had already arrived. “ Well I see, take care then sis. ” Jennifer said a little saddened but most of all angrily. “ I’ll see you later, I uh will give mom some food and medicines, take care. ” she added not allowing her eyes to meet with her sister’s. “ Jennifer, it’s not that.. ” Viviane started, until she saw her saddened face. “ It’s not like I’ll miss you okay? ” Jennifer said as she tried to dry her eyes with her sleeves. “ Come here, I’ll promise to bring back some more next time, take good care of mom and yourself. ” Viviane said as she held her sister tight in her arms, as soon as they had departed giving her a soft and encouraging pat on her head. “ Tell mom I love her. ” Viviane said as she turned on her heels and rushed for the door the moment she felt tears coming from behind her eyes. “ Bye. ” she stammered before rushing out of the house, closing the door quickly behind her.
‘ It’s not that I don’t reject this, I’m just doing my duty, for both of your sake. ’ she thought as she rushed through the streets, letting her tears stream down her face.
