By the end of the day, Leo had more than enough information to keep his plan going. He needed to know something very important. “What do your parents do?” he asked, hoping that the conversation would lead to when they were leaving next. Jade’s face hardly changed, as if she’d heard this question one too many times. “I’m a foster child.” Leo was happy to hear it. That would make capturing her that much simpler. On his way out, a little girl kept staring at him, as if she knew the evil that he was hiding. He scowled at her and tapped his foot impatiently, staring her down as she walked away. He met his bodyguard, who was called Jez, outside the food court. He brought them to a black SUV filled with scientific equipment. Leo began typing as soon as he was in the vehicle. Jez asked, “So, Leo, any luck? I see a familiar expression in your eyes. You forming a plan, Leo?” Leo gave an evil smirk.
“Yes. She’s obviously one of these creatures and will be easy to capture. She is an orphan,” he said. She was undeniably the perfect target. But she didn’t know that. Jade returned to the girl’s foster home, where she was greeted by another group of girls, her friends that she lived with. They were the closest she had to family. They sat down to eat dinner together and talked about how one of their group had been adopted today. They said she was lucky to be adopted by such a wealthy family. Jade seemed lost in her own world at the time. She couldn’t believe that a dare would find her a friend. Before it was time for all of the children to sleep, one of the tenants stopped Jade and informed her that tomorrow she would meet a family that wished to adopt her. Jade was concerned that she might leave her friends and Leo, nervous that she would not be wanted, and joyous that she may soon have a family to call her own.
