The Shadow
By: Ashley-Sama
I see it follow me
Through night and day
The creature mirrors my every step
Corruption to everything I know
It follows me right around
My shadow does,
To the falling sun
And the rising sea
My shadow follows faithfully
Always traveling around
As I live in a place
Where the sea is high
And the cliffs rise above it
Leaving me alone
With my shadow
I have no escape
For my shadow follows
It may sound a curse to others
But my shadow is the only one for me
I cannot fly always with my wings
I have no shackles that bear my down
I am not trapped in a tower with no walls
I am only a girl with wings
Without feathers
I always loved my shadow
I envied it to follow
And so it did
It stayed behind me, watching wariliy
For once I shivered
I have never known of fear
The shadow looked at me
“Will you come if I stay?”
A smile reached my lips
“Of course, I may follow wherever you may go.”
The shadow let out an menacing laugh
It sent shivers down my spine
It smiled
That smile scared me
It sent pain through my hips
I let out a gasp
Why was my shadow hurting me so?
“Then you will follow me now?”
The shadow asked
Its hand touched my face
Oh how I was so naïve
To believe that my shadow was a trusting creature
For what I did next was hard to believe
“I will follow my shadow”
I replied
“Then will you follow me to hell?”
I tried to run then
But my legs wouldn’t move
“You don’t want to go?”
The shadow yelled dragging me down
I tried to cry for help
But I was only a girl
Alone with her shadow at sea
No help would come
I opened my arms
Embracing my beloved shadow
It dragged me under until I was no more
I was but a simple child back then
A naïve little kid
Now I roam in this land
Not as a ghost
But as a shadow
Only a kinder soul than my own shadow
Someone that keeps trust
With my dear, Emily
I tell her of my shadow
She smiles and yearns for more
A child so much like me
I guess the shadow wasn’t my end
It was the beginning…
