Chapter One Lost

“Victoria..?” A loud female voice interrupted the quiet atmosphere.

I frowned, trying to ignore the voice. I didn’t want anyone to bother me. I wanted to be alone. Was that too much to ask? The voice still called for this ‘Victoria’. I didn’t know who she was. I forced open my weary eyes to the blue eyes of a girl. Her eyes had a strange look to it. It was almost a color fused green and pale blue. She had brown curls that lengthen to her shoulders as a concerned expression plastered onto her face.

I wondered why she was here. All I wanted to do was sleep in this soft white bed, but she wouldn’t let me.

“Are you okay?” She asked her eyes moistened. “I thought we lost you.”

“Why are you here?” I asked, irritated.

“To check if you’re okay, retard. You do have a big hole in your chest.”

“Huh?” I said, looking down at my tightly bandaged chest. “I guess I forgot about that.”

The girl took a seat by my bed. I glanced around the room. A tube was tied to my left arm, the other was in my left wrist. Blood and morphine. Hell, what happened to me. My eyes seem to droop. I guess the morphine was making me sleeping. The girl smiled at me and a frustrated sigh came out of my mouth.

“Seriously, who are you?” I asked.

The girl smiled at me, as if I was pulling some practical joke or something.

“You know who I am.”

“Uh. No. I don’t.” I said, looking at her straight in the eye.

Her eyes widened in shock. She finally got the idea that I didn’t know who the heck she was. She grabbed my arms, her knuckles bone white.

“Tori, it’s me. Shelby.” She said, trembling.

“I’m sorry, but I don’t know you.” I said.

The words seemed familiar, but I couldn’t remember. Who was this girl? A flash of a girl standing in front of me, her smiling face looked at me. She sat at the edge of the sidewalk, her eyes widened in shock. Another image filled my mind, that same girl standing behind me calling my name. Pain flashed through my head as each image crossed my mind like an electric shock. My eyes opened, sending me back to reality.

“Shelby..?” I said, recognizing the girl.

“Y-yeah.” She hugged me. “Do you remember Vlad?”

Vlad… I did remember that name. Sharper pains flashed through my mind. His warm smile, our sweet kisses, and everything came back to me until our last moments together.

“You will remember nothing.” He said touching my face. “Goodbye, my love.”

I watched myself reach out, trying to hold onto him. “I’ll still love you.”

Those were the last words I spoke to him. I gasped, my eyes fluttered open.

“You’re crying.” Shelby mumbled.

I touched my cheek. Haven’t I ran out of those already? I guess not. I remember everything. A sob rocked through my throat. Even if I didn’t want to remember I did.

“Did Sharon really..?” I couldn’t finish my sentence.

“Yeah, she did.” She paused for a moment.

“Do you know where Vlad is?” she asked.

“He’s gone.”

“To where?”

“Xendrana.” I replied.

Shelby had that pissed look on her face. She grabbed a hold of my shoulders.

“Don’t you dare sulk over that idiot. If he left you, it wasn’t your fault!”

I nodded, not able to speak another word. It felt like my heart was in my throat. Shelby patted my shoulder.

“There’s food downstairs when you’re ready to eat.” She said.

“Ok…” I said quietly.

I shouldn’t worry her. I slowly moved my legs from the bed and frowned at the sunrise. It was beautiful. The sky seem to burst out yellows and pinks. The very sight of this beauty should’ve left me breathless, but sadly. The only emotion I shown was despair. The only real question was why?

Why did he leave me crimpled and unable to live?

Did that mean our love was a fraud?

That none of this was real?

Why?
