"Alexa, I Love You"  by LauraJoslyn
There I stood, quivering, as I hung over him.  It was a somber early morning.  About five or six, I think.  I couldn't really know for sure as the skylights can be deceiving at times.
I tucked away the blade I had purchased just yesterday.  It had no more use to me.  It had done it's dirty yet noble job.  As it slid into the new knapsack, that could've belonged to anyone,  a few crimson droplets fell from it's mangled tip.  Luckily, the river water splashed up on the shore just enough to wash them clean away.
I walked down-stream 500 feet to where the river seemed to disappear.  It actually didn't vanish into thin air, things don't really do that, they always go somewhere.  As I came closer to the vanishing point the roar of crashing water rose from the below my feet.  At a point that appeared to be a mile below me, I saw what would be the final resting place, at least until the waves, rocks, and animals did him in, of my daughters' killer.
Back at the lifeless body of the coward, now at my feet and no longer an ominous monster in my dreams, I realized that this may not have been the law's way to punish the guilty, but it was the only way for me to deal with the demons in my mind.  The demons that told me, "You should've been there!  You could've saved her!  She relied on you and you let her down in the worst possible way."
What seemed like only moments later, I watched the killer's body flop about on the rocks before disappearing altogether.  Just as that happened, the morning sun rose in full force and the clouds drifted away.  A wave of serenity came over me and I was finally at peace again.  I turned around, took in a full breath of fresh spring air, spread my arms out as if I were about to welcome my sweet Alexa into in to my embrace.  This was indeed my intention.  I looked up into the sky........ into Alexa's innocent face hovering above, momentarily out of reach.  As my earthly body drifted from the top of the waterfall, my heart was overflowing with joy.  I was one last breath away from holding my Alexa in my arms once again.
