It was Friday when I left the freedom I mistook for prison. That friday afternoon passed so slowly as I anticipated what I thought would be an adventurous escape from my tormented life.
I had more trouble than your average teen, that was for sure. But I got to go to school everyday and feel the sunshine on my back. I had teachers who were down right evil but I also had a couple who could almost be considered friendly. I had trouble with girls my own age who hated me for no reason. But I also had a sweet friend named Maddie who loved me even though she had only known me for two months.
God, I miss Maddie. I miss being able to talk to someone and tell them anything and everything about day without hiding what it's really like.
That friday was my last day as a kid. I grew up in one very long horrific weekend.
I jumped in Jacks car prepared to run away with him. We were going to drive until we found a little town to hide in. Jack was going to be my big brother and take care of me. He said we would get a good nights rest at his house that night and then head out first thing in the morning.
When we got to the house we ordered pizza and I drank Mr Pibb while Jack had his older mans beverage. I wondered why he was drinking so much before a big road trip and why nothing was packed but I didn't say anything. Then Jack put on some romantic music and for the first time I started feeling nervous.
At first, he never let me leave the house and when he had to leave for work he would lock me in a walk in closet like a dog being locked up in a kennel. I never made a sound while he was gone. His threats worked well. I can still feel him pulling on my index finger nail until I thought it would tear off. He stopped at the first trickle of blood and asked me if I wanted more. I shook my head no unable to speak from the pain. I never questioned him after that. All he had to do to get my attention is look at my hand and I would immediately comply with whatever he wanted.
