Finally the weather was good. It was a nice 25 degrees and the sun was shining high in the sky. For Ireland this is great weather. There’s a break from the constant rain. I decided to go to the beach to celebrate. The beach is an hour away, which normally doesn’t bother me as the weather is never and I repeat never nice. So road trip it was. I packed a lovely picnic with sandwiches, crisps and coke. I also packed every fruit you could think of because it’s a great snack including rosy red apples, bright orange oranges, the perfect mix between soft and hard bananas and many little grapes. Last but not least I packed juicy red strawberries.
I set out on my road trip. I couldn’t wait to get there. An hour passed pretty slowly but finally I was there. The first thing I noticed when I stepped out of the car was the smell of the fresh salty sea water and the feel of the cool relaxing breeze brushing across my face. I love a good breeze on a warm day. Next the beautiful sound of the birds singing greeted my ears. It was soon ruined by little kids screaming and running around. It was nice to see they were enjoying the weather too.
It was so nice to sit on the soft sand and watch kids and other people have a good time. They were having all kinds of races and games such as swimming races, sprints, potato and spoon race etc. They were also playing tag and who can hold their breath the longest under the water. I lay down on the sand for a while sunbathing but then decided to go for a swim.
It was a short walk down to the water as the tide was in. I took off my socks and shoes and dipped my feet in the water. Even though the day was a nice hot one and the sand was boiling the water was still freezing. As I swam the taste of the salty seawater entered my mouth. I had to keep coughing and couldn’t get the taste out of my mouth for a while. As I was walking back to my stuff I unexpectedly tripped over a rock and fell into the tiny grains of soft sand. My leg hit against the rock and scraped it and drew some bright red blood. It all happened in a flash and was over in a flash.
I started to walk back to my stuff and got changed. I just set out the picnic and was about to eat when it rain started to bucket down. The sandwiches were soggy, the coke was too watery and the crisps weren’t crispy. The only thing that was okay was the fruit but I wasn’t in a fruity mood anymore. I knew it was too good to last, it is Ireland after all. I hopped back in the car and hummed rain songs all the way home.
