This is the story of my entire life. Well, mostly just the important parts anyway. But the rest isn't even worth mentioning. I'll start with one day, 20 years ago. My sister Julie and I were out playing basketball with some of the other kids in our little neighborhood. It was a very small town, but I always liked it. Everyone knew everyone in Mendenhall, Mississippi. So, anyway, Julie was the only girl playing basketball with us, and on top of that, the youngest, at only 8 years old. The rest of us were 10.
"Jacob! I'm open!" yelled Julie.
So I passed it to her. And while she was about to shoot, some insane, stupid, obnoxious kid yells out SHOT! And it kind of scared her, so naturally she missed. And needless to say, I was pissed.
"Hey! Time out. No one talks to my sister that way. Apologize. Now!" I told him.
Julie said, " Jacob, don't worry about it. Its just a game."
" No, Julie, its not fine," I turned to Mr. Obnoxious, "Come on now were waiting!"
"Okay, okay. I'm sorry Julie," he said.
"That wasn't so hard now, was it?" I asked.
"No," he said, looking down with much deserved shame.
See, Julie and I are a lot closer than most siblings are. We hang out, and go to the playground, and play games together. Sure we fight, its inevitable. But not nearly as much as, say, my friend Joe and his sister Sarah. Neither one of us really had a lot of friends. It was hard to living in such a small town. There were probably only about 15 kids in each grade. And everyone already had their little group of friends, so Julie and I were best friends.
