People love a happy ending. They love it when the conflict is resolved. When everyone has closure. When the package is complete, and topped with bows of silken ribbon. People want every tale to be a present, just for them. See... people are selfish. They don't care about the story. They only care about how it makes them feel. They read books and watch movies because they wanna feel a certain way. Well, if you read this, you might laugh a little. You might cry, sometimes. You might feel angry, or scared, or justified. No matter how it makes you feel, the ending is gonna to be the same, and I'll tell you one thing... it ain't happy.
Who am I? Nobody special, really. You can just think of me as the Narrator. Kinda like in A Clockwork Orange, except I don't have an accent, and I'm a lot less violent. Far as I'm concerned, violence is just a good way to end up dead, or in jail. Most of the people I'm gonna tell you about, well... they never shared my philosophy. Don't get me wrong, some of 'em were good people. A few of 'em... not so much. Every now and then, there was even an innocent, like that Shari woman. I guess she's as good a place to start as any...
