Fur-babies (10): Sun Worshipers
by JD_Renaissance
My fur-babies are very much sun worshipers. I first came to this realization when JuJu was just a baby and would whine at the blinds of our apartment patio door. When whining didn’t get the job done, she’d smack them with her nose, look up at me, and give me the most mournful half whine half yawn to ever come out of a little doxie pup. Every day, at about three in the afternoon, she’d do the same thing until I finally realized she wanted me to turn the blinds so the sun could shine on the floor. When I finally complied, she’d immediately lay down in the full sun, only to move again when the light moved also, both sun and dachshund scooting across the living room floor until neither could go any further and sunset was near. As she grew older and as the winter came, she couldn’t understand why the sun couldn’t come out and on cloudy days would whine for it, begging me to bring it. Those days, my heart would be torn and I cursed the fact I had no power over the clouds or the suns rays and I could not give her what she wanted most. Boston also loves the heat, but because of her fur, she prefers little doses of sunshine to her sister’s heavy addiction. Now, both will lay near the vertical blinds by the sliding door in my parent’s kitchen while the sun radiates through. Sometimes, if the blinds are closed, they scoot in between them and the door. More often than not, however, I still hear that mournful whine, the signal for me to angle the blinds or lift them so my fur-babies can bask in the golden glory of the day.
