To all aspiring writers here at StoryMash:
I've seen plenty of interesting fiction posted here in the past few months I've been here, and I've contributed some things of my own as well. However, I've seen that there is a noticeable lack of material in one of the older and more universal niches of storytelling; the epic.
What is an epic? We've seen epics on television and read them in our classes; they range from the cinematic yet earthly (Ben-Hur, The Godfather, ect) to the utterly fantasic (LOTR, The Epic of Gilgamesh, ect), yet even today they hold appeal and interest to both the dense and imaginative reader alike. I know I'm being vague, but I'm not a dictionary; look it up yourselves for clarity if the term baffles you. :P
Whether or not such a project has been attempted before matters not. Everyone is welcome to contribute to this sprawling work in any way they like, and so hence there are no boundaries to what and what is not acceptable (beyond spam and the usual stuff of course).
The first chapter that I myself have put down, an overture/heroic poem of sorts, will open the door for the rest of you. I'm throwing in a few names and such to give the rest of you ideas for material. :P Contribute what you will in any way you wish, for this is a world we will build together, a tapestry of many threads.
So, in conclusion: Start your own stories here in Medias, draw from what others post, and have fun!
Any questions or comments should be posted here, as well as discussion about this project in general. :)
Good luck!
