My mom told me that Alfven School, was, yes,a good school, but not one you would consider attending for four years unless you were obssessed with the SATs.
It's the number one school in Connecticut's "Do You Want To Get At Least A 2100 On The SATs?" Prep List, with a rating of 4.0 from the College Board. It's incredibly hard to get into, and even if you did get in,if you didn't meet expectations, you were kicked out.3 out of 5 people who attended Alfven, were asked to leave in a matter of 3 months.
My mom was right.
So,it came as a frightening and exciting surprise, when my acceptance letter arrived in the mail. The catalog conceived the school to seem as a regular, top notch boarding school, with perfectly groomed students and helpful administrators.
But really,it was another form or shape of hell.
It was competition;Parties didn't exist, and neither did alcohol, drugs, etc that usually existed in the outside world. It was notorious for kicking out Martha Cho,the smartest and most brilliant girl on the Connecticut State Youth Olympiad Team, because she got a 70 on an Advanced Latin lll test. How did Loren know?
She was back in school on Monday.
